Peppy's build thread

Finally seeing someone with Fox 2.0 coilovers! Looks good.

Everywhere i look online, it's listed to lift up to 2". So you got 3" out of yours?

I installed them without adjusting the height they came set at from Fox. My stock springs may have sagged some but after the Fox's settled I got 3" of lift. The perches are pretty much in the middle of the available thread on the shock bodies. I'll definitely have to do some adjusting once I get the bumper on. I'd like to keep the front at 37" since the new rear springs will probably put me at 38-38.5"

Looked up my VIN with Toyota to see what kind of maintenance had been done. They only had 1 entry for an oil change at 5000 miles. I could assume the previous owner did all his own maintenance, but I rather assume he did the bare minimum and play it safe. So I've started stockpiling maintenance parts. Centric Premium rotors front and rear, Akebono Performance Street pads, NGK Iridium plugs, CV grease, grease and grease gun for the driveshaft, Moog urethane sway bushings. Next up I need to order synthetic for the diffs. My only problem right now is that I'm busy with work and vacation the next few weeks so parts are just gonna continue to pile up while I don't have time to install them. Guess it's not so bad of a problem to have ;):

I think I've given up on my buddy doing my Satoshi grill for me. His body shop is super busy so he just doesn't have time. I'll have to get my grill back from him and add it back to my list of projects.

Here's some of the pile:

Got some work done on one of my headlights. Still working on it, prob have to run over to TRS tomorrow since the wiring harness for the X.POD 2 is giving me issues. The retro quik projector is done and all set. It's taken me since last night to get this far on just one headlight, but in the end it will be worth it.

4000 lumen DRL's! Finally finished all the wiring. Once I clean it up some more and get the aiming done I'll seal the backs of the headlights. I definitely need to do some restoration on the lenses, they look like poo with this much light going through them and with the black interior.

Got some new toys today.

Picked up some Vision X Optimus round 10w LED's for my bumper holes. I think I'm going to wire them up to the factory fog switch. They came with a really nice relay harness, but I'm sick of wiring up the harnesses and finding places to mount the relays.

Super happy with 4xInnovations. Ordered the DOM with kickout sliders on Monday expecting 3-4 week lead time. They arrived today after being shipped out Tuesday!

Been slowly chipping away at my Satoshi grill. Almost have the initial sanding done and should be doing the bondo work tonight or tomorrow. I got the 1/4" hole mesh I ordered from ebay. It's really nice and sturdy, but should be easy to work with. It has a nice anodized black finish. It was a little pricey, but I think it was worth it. I'm not sure if I want to use the badge or not. I'll have to try it both ways once I get it finished.

I've been watching your headlight build in anticipation for the final result. Nice work. Are you planning to do a write up on them? I'm interested in how you wired them and how you mounted those led's in the high beam location. Will these also act as high beams and drl's?

I already picked up retro-quick package, and planned to leave the high beams stock...but now you have me thinking.

I plan on doing a quick write up as soon as I get a chance. I've got a lot to get done and a cross country move coming up so it might be a little slow in coming together. Once I get everything aimed and sealed I'll shoot a video of light output which should be helpful to others.

I have them wired up on separate switched relay harnesses. So I can turn on each headlight separately. Necessary, no but that's how I wanted them. The switches are wired to accessory so I can leave them switched on and have always on DRL's. At night they are auxiliary high beams. You can get the pods as spot or flood or spot/flood combo. I went with dual spots. My Vision X's are 20 degree mids.

I mounted the pods with the included machined brackets. Each of the dual pods comes with one so I had to buy a couple extra at $18 a pop. When I first opened the headlights to start the project I had no idea how I was going to mount the pods. I got lucky and once 2 brackets were attached they fit the back of the high beam housing perfectly. I drilled 2 quarter inch holes top and bottom to match the brackets and ran stainless bolts and nuts through each. I still have to come up with a way to seal everything up, but that will have to wait till I get everything aimed.

I hated every single damn hour of making this Satoshi grill. It's nowhere near perfect, but I'm sick and tired of working on it. Can't decide if I like it better with or without the TOYOTA badge. Luckily it's just a couple screws and I can have it either way.

Still hoping you're going to do a basic write up on those headlights. I'm about to take on this project and would like to see how you installed and wired the high beams. Also could you post some night shots of their output?

Satoshi looks good. I prefer the understated look without the emblem, but either way looks good. :clap2:

LOL The Satoshi is a process man, it takes a lot of patience! It took me two full weekends to finish mine and it's not perfect either..

It looks good though man! It's hard to say i like both with and with out also but there is just something about having that old school toyota badge in there that really completes it for me.

Had a busy day working on the 4runner. Swapped out the Moog FJ rear springs for the Camburg/SAW 1.5" springs. Swapped all 4 rotors and pads to Centric Premiums and Akebono Performance. Finally put on my Camburg ball joint UCA's. I was really pissed at the poor fitment(aka completely not fitting) ball joint covers. Total waste of $40. I'm going to see how much the SAW's settle over the next few days and then raise the front up an inch or so. I think I gained a little over an inch in the rear over the Moogs. Also finished painting my sliders. They get welded on Monday.

Nice looking good:thumb:

That's weird your caps don't fit? Mine clip in pretty good, although i don't have the bj's pressed in yet. Hopefully i'll have mine on next week! I would call camburg and have them send you a new set!

I've had nothing but issues with the camburgs. One of the cups for the ball joints must have been machined incorrectly because the 20 ton press couldn't press it enough to get the retaining clip on. I ended up tack welding it on after pressing it as far as it would go. So it's ugly and will probably rust, lol.

The caps are all f'd up from trying to fit them. MIne came with instructions saying you had to sand and do a bunch of modifying to get them to fit. Honestly I wish I get went with the Desert Racing UCA's. I've spent about the same amount on these Camburgs by now.

After over 6 months of being told by Mile Marker that they were on the boat I finally got my winch. It was worth the wait because this was the only winch that met all of my requirements and what I was willing to pay. It's an SEC8 Scout ES which means it's fully waterproof and has 100ft of synthetic line. I'll install it tomorrow morning and post some pics up.

Level 8 Guardians

Hey man! Build is looking great. I've been trying to find the Level 8 Guardians (17) in black and I can't find them anywhere! All I can find are the aluminum and bronze.

Where did you get yours?

Thanks Scott.

It's funny you should ask about the wheels. I bought them from Discount Tire Direct, but I was actually just looking at their site the other day to buy a 5th for the spare and noticed they don't have the black with my offset listed anymore. You might want to give them a call and see if they are discontinued or when and if they are getting more. They seem to have pretty close relationship with Level 8 so they would know.

Thanks man ill give them a shout. What's the offset on yours? -6?

I think I found some on amazon but the offset was +25. Aren't level 6 wheels hub centric?
