Performance for the V8

You guys are all wrong.

The V8 in the 4R and Land Cruiser are made in Japan and the connecting rods are forged.

The V8 in the Sequoia and Tundra are made in the USA with cast connecting rods.

There never was a reported failure in a 4R or Land Cruiser with either the transmissions or the engines.

Get your facts straight.

The debate was never over the material of the rods. Simply their inability to handle the increased pressure.

Take a look at this info in regards to comparing rods Lexus 1UZFE, 2UZFE and 3UZFE rod
 

Ok, aside from hearsay, where is proof that they are forged and not cast? The links are to information posted by EskimoChaos who was the person who posted in this thread about them being forged.

Here's the question....if the 4Runner can handle the supercharger, why did Toyota stop selling it? Simple question.

If there are any of the complete kits laying around that are brand new I want one, so if you have information as to where it can be purchased drop it via a PM to me please.

I don't mean to be argumentative although it may come across that way...i simply haven't seen anything but people saying its near certain death, and nothing that proves the hearsay about our vehicles having forged rods being correct. There is a definitive answer to one questions, and its that the 05+ with VVTi have slightly higher compression which will lower the amount of boost that can be run without the need for higher octane fuel and or lower boost.

Toyota used these 'skinny' rods to lower the reciprocating weight - making the engine 'Rev Happy' - but - they are not designed to support Turbo / Supercharging - which is why TRD stopped offering Supercharger kits for these - rods were blasting holes in the block.
so i guess its a question of powder forged vs forged. again, im not stating facts or taking up for anyone or being argumenative, im just contributing to the thread.

the funny thing about that article is that the supercharger didn't seem to do much performance wise when compared to a NA V8. The V8 alone would have 0-60 around 7.8-8 sec and the 1/4mile at around 16. I'm not sure if that 4runner was tuned correctly because if it had the extra 100+hp it sure wasn't getting to the wheels.

im not willing to try it out as a test fit at $10,000-$15000 for the kit, just an ideal.
 
...You just bumped a thread that last had activity 3 years ago to reply to a post that's 7 years old, with what's now the first Google result for "03 4Runner headers"... :shrug:

I know, probably an ignorant question, so have your fun. But..... Since there are very few options for adding more power on the V8's, why wouldn't one save up for lower axle gearing? Granted, it won't add horsepower per say, but you'd definitely feel it in the seat of your pants. Seems like we're currently geared plenty high in 5th gear, just seems to me that regearing the axles would be a smart choice. It probably wouldn't be that much more expensive than buying the DT headers and paying somebody to swap them, if one was only doing the headers for more power.
