Performance rotors

Im in the search for some new rotors and pads... I think I want to go with slotted ones or maybe slotted and drilled depending on what yall think of them. I was wondering if anybody had tried these on a 4runner. If so, any input on them would be appreciated, and where the best places to buy them are.
Thanks

Tyler in all honesty, coming from high performance car back ground and racing, upgrading rotors will do little for your braking performance and generally either hurt pad life and/or have issues with rotors.

your best bet for better braking performance is a higher Cf pad, Stainless steel brake lines and DOT 4 fluid. I currently run Stop Tech Stainless lines and ATE Typ200 Dot fluid. performance is improved and all at a total cost (including labor) less than that just to purchase your rotors.

Casper,
Where did you get your brake lines? I checked stop techs site and they only listed a rear set available. I was looking to upgrade my 05 lines to stainless but have had no luck with a full set.

thanks for the input... I guess ill just stick with the regular ones and then upgrade lines and fluid

Just spend a few extra bucks and get the ATE super blue brake fluid, or believe it or not, the Ford heavy duty brake fluid, along with the better pads and lines. Many professional racers use the Ford brake fluid. I've always used high performance rotors on my Porsche when racing- yes, it does make a difference! less unsprung weight etc, but at a cost. Its not worth it on a street truck, especially if you ever plan on going off road with it-thats why Porsche doesn't use cross drilled or slotted rotors on the Cayenne, a more than capable off road vehicle, because you can get stones caught in the slots or holes, and that'll put a nice dent in your wallet. Replacing the pads and possible rotors becuase of the stone. The 99 4runner has drums in the back anyway, so make sure you don't go crazy on the front without upgrading the rears somehow.

Limited,

I agree with you 100% that drilled or preferably slotted rotors can make a difference but thats generally on a track and not on the street.

Casper,

You're right, its on the track where you'll notice the difference, thats because you should be threshold braking on the track, not the street, and its the extreme upper end of the performance envelope where those differences come out. Another point is that when I upgraded my rotors for racing, I also put on larger rotors and calipers, which contributes to the better braking. This is not a fiscally prudent upgrade on most street vehicles unless you're constantly at the limit. Not saying it couldn't save someones butt if you stopped a few feet quicker, but thats not the norm.
