Personal Locator Beacons

I'd like to hear about personal experiences with PLB's since my wife and I wheel alone a lot and would like to be able to call/signal for help if things go sideways. Anyone with info and which are good and which aren't? Yes, I can read "reviews" but the people that post to review sites seem to be either people with complaints or people selling them which aren't reliable resources to me.

TIA!

Well, fortunately my only experience with one is carrying it around and filling out the mandatory NOAA registration form every two years.

I do a lot of solo remote travel so I try to cover all my bases. I have a SPOT, too, but that can be problematic in canyons, etc, plus I like redundancy.

I have a McMurdo Fastfind which will have to be replaced in about a year due to the 5 years being up on the sealed battery.

We carry an ACR Rescue link PLB on the boat. I am pretty sure they offer some land based options. ACR is very popular in the marine world. I know SPot offers land options, but it might be worth seeing if a regular PLB would work on land.
