Pet Odor

Hey does anyone know a good permanent way to get rid of dog odor in the car? It always bothers my passengers but I can only help them by covering it up with some febreeze and other cheap air fresheners. Anyone know of a good way to clean and get rid of the odor?

Steamclean your carpets and then vacuum with pet powder (fragance of your choice).

I think that would be a good idea for the house, but I don't know of any portable steam cleaners for the car. I know about the vacuum with the fragrance powder as well and that didn't work. But I could be completely clueless on what your talking about.

That looks like a good investment, but I think $120 for that machine is overkill for me, I'm looking for a method that's affordable and DIY. Thanks for the responses!

Most people focus odor removal on the seats and carpeting but I think the headliner is the most important. Spraying the headliner with febreze always got rid of car odors for me. You do have to have the windows down while the febreze dries though

Again, you steamclean the carpet before you vacuum with fragance powder. Vacuuming with pet odor fragance powder (alone) will not work. Some steamcleaners come with a handheld hose steamer attached to the unit. I have a Hoover one.

hmm never thought about that. I'll try that, and MikesToy I'll try to steam clean it this weekend and see how it works out. Thanks for the input guys

I've heard of cutting some apples in half and let it sit in the car out in the sun on a hot day with windows closed remove cigarette odor too. Supposedly baking soda sprinkled sparingly over the interior works too.

While its not a bad idea to perform a thorough cleaning by removing the seats vaccuming and steam cleaning, an ozone treatment would be a better solution to eliminate the odor. Pet odor gets everywhere including the headliner and hard to clean areas.

1) Get full Interior Detail.
2) Spray OZIUM all inside and inside of your Vents. I even spray it in the inner side of the cabin filter when I change it. It will kill most of the Odor causing bacteria.
