Petrol Can

Hi everyone..

I was wondering what everyone is using to hold their petrol when they go wheeling? Scepter? race jugs? or ?

cause I'm in the market for some and would like to know what everyone uses when they go wheeling.. cause last time when I went wheeling.. I almost didn't make it home + my mates rover almost ran out of gas..

First time I went on extended trip I grabbed a cheap (in quality not price) plastic POS because I was short on time to source something better. It worked but the CA smog compliant spout sucked big time. I have since scrounged up 3 older style jerry cans with one spout that I use on occasion. But these are not the smog legal style so you can't buy them or the spout new here.

Question is where do you plan on carrying the fuel? That may help dictate what would work best.

I sold two to a friend. I also bought replacement gaskets, just in case, and spouts. They are made by the same company that made the originals. There are cheaper ones but they use thinner steel. These are high quality. You can stand them on their tops and won't leak.

The question is, do you want to save a little money and have cheap junk that will break and leak and need to be replaced or something that will last a long time.

Those cans definitely are the best ones on the market in my opinion, a buddy of mine has used his 2 for a long time, getting tossed in and out of the bed of his pickup and have never given him any problems. Worth every penny.

I still use the older style military red jerry cans. Even with new seals they still seem to leak a little bit, especially when climbing in altitude and the pressure gets to them. If you keep them on your roof or on some sort of rack on the outside it's not a problem, but if inside they do tend to fill up the cab with fumes.

Typically my normal fuel cell holds enough petroleum distillates for my adventures

Being in the militatry has it's advantages. Especially being a Corpsman(Medic) with the Marines.

"Hey Doc, I need this...."

"OK. I need this and this..."

"Not a problem, Doc. I got you."

I use these. With the "Donkey d!ck", aka fuel spout. The only problem is that the fuel spout is wider than the fuel intake on our tanks. Remember, these are made for diesel, or JP5/8. Just gotta find a piece of pipe that is the same inside diameter as the spout, and then glue it in place. Easy as3.14159265. You can always get the other spout though.....

I had to get her to full stuff. Needed to measure so I could get the right length shocks. Don't want the shock to be the limiting factor in my droop.

I was thinking about either on the roof rack or the rear bumper (probably going with an cbi if it happens)

I have an race jug atm but I was looking for the scepter gas cans... found an bloke in the bay area that is selling mwc for $25 dollars an pop.. which isn't bad.. the real scepter are running $80 an piece... CA is re****ed.. you can't have this, you can't have that...

Is the pic your full droop? I'd think any shock that extended that far would bottom out when compressed. How did you control for that issue? Just curious.

Personally i go with used $25 Jerry cans when i find them......139 bucks for 4 gallons is nuts

The Scepter fuel cans MFC are awesome. They are hard to buy, ebay does have them. They are bigger (due to the thickness of the plastic) over metal. The plastic does break down over time (buying used ones could be scary). They are safer in a fire because they expand then melt releasing the gas to burn. Metal will explode in a fire.

When I figure it out I'll let ya know......
I need to get a f250 tank, mount it, mount the crossmember for the shocks, then remeasure before I actually purchase shocks.

Anyway... Back to topic.
