Philips HID kits?

Looking to add HID to my 08 4 runner.

Just bought it today and haven't driven it in the dark yet. It is going to be used as a 3rd vehicle as needed in weather or towing the boat. Not daily car.

How well do the stock bulbs/headlights work?
How well would they work with HID's?

I've done a lot of researching and reading peoples reviews from all over the internet. And I understand the higher the kelvin the brighter the color, but the less light output on the road.

Philips makes a 4300k and 6000k kit.
I'm assuming the 4300k isn't as intense bright as the 6000k, but puts a better light distribution on the road? Im not looking for fancy exotic bright colors. Just a HID that lights up the road the best.

I've read on here a lot of guys like some of these 3rd party, ebay and no name HID kits. What kind of quality kit does Philips offer vs these other kits?

I don't mind spending another $150 etc.. knowing I got great quality.

Is Philips the way to go?

I bought a kit don't think it's Phillips. Came with 6k bulbs. Looked neat but too blue. Ended up buying some 4500k bulbs and love them. The projector does a good job at distributing the light. I feel sometimes they annoy people in lower vehicles with the intensity of the light. Personally I and several of my friends have gotten the "Kensun" kits from amazon for around 60 bucks with no issues.

The Phillips kits I believe are just the bulbs it doesn't change the ballast or other electronics. Higher bulb quality probably only equates to longevity rather then brightness.

The higher the Kelvin does not mean brighter, it changes the color range.

Philips dont make hid kit, they have bulbs only, i think hyluxtek make the ballast, thats all i know if you get it from ebay at reliable seller

Im not looking for fancy exotic bright colors. Just a HID that lights up the road the best.

Morimoto makes great stuff too.
4300 - 5000 K is going to be the brightest.
Once you start going blue-er you actually lose brightness.

I apologize in advance but i didnt even read much of the post. Go to kbcarstuff.com and buy the Philips 4300k extreme kit. that's it. I had it on mine and it was perfect. The light was white as good as my new acura mdx HIDs. It looks like an OEM lexus/acura/audi etc maybe even better. Perfect color. 6000k will be a bit blue depending on which bulb you get. i would buy that kit again and again. Its about 200 i think but worth every single cent. Plus i twas easy to install, top quality. (im not in anyway affiliated with them i may even have some pic son my profile).

Correct. Phillips only make HID bulbs,not kits. I believe the highest "K rating" they make is 5000K. If you want legitimate Phillips/Osram products, go to the retrofitsource.com.

OP: you can do this as well if you want a "kit". As RiceandPho mentioned, phillips doesn't make a ballast (not to my knowledge anyway.........)

4300k is also consider as OEM. Higher temperature bulbs are bright when shine directly to the eyes but it doesn't seem to reflex well from object. Therefore, it looks darker from inside the car, especially in the rain or when the road is wet.

I got cheap kits from eBay and they lasted about 2 years. I had to replace one ballast and one bulb.

i bought a 5000k kit from DDM tuning....overall i think they were worth the cost which was very cheap comparibly...i think i had $120 into all 4 lights....headlight low beam and fog lights...if i had known better i would have gone with the 4300 because even the 5k is too blue for me. The fog lights are so extremely bright that i can not even use them on the road unless no other cars are around. I have the "projector" style fog lights in my 04 but i have the updated projector headlights from an 06.....One of my fog light ballasts didnt work intermittently for the first week but have had no issues since....all the plugs were backwards which was no big deal if you know how to remove the pins and switch it over correctly....but DDMS customer service department is aboslutely useless....i was going to just order another set through them instead of ****ing around with those jerks....they said if you dont report a problem within 72 hours of delivery they wont replace them for you. got the complete runaround! oh well thats what you get when you pay 30 bucks a pop....anyways i would do it again cuz they are so cheap. but i have heard of good luck with morimoto! or the retrofit source

i have 5000k from DDM tuning, i dont know if they are just ****ed up or what but i would say mine would be the equivolent of the 8K comparing to this chart....
