Phone not charging through USB

Has anyone else had this issue recently? I searched and didn't find anything. The head unit won't recognize the iPhone through the USB and it's not charging. It worked fine until Monday. I changed cords and still have the same issue.

Maybe check the fuse for the port?

Mine charged, but not at a significant, or even noticeable rate while it was on.

Sometimes it won't recognize my iPhone or iPad and the charge has been weak/ abysmal just keeping my iPad at about what charge level I plugged it in at - but that's when running navigation and music.

Also had the same issue with cords, only liked the "Apple" cord and not the aftermarket one.

Mine didn't work either. I just assumed it was very low power intended just for data transfer. Idk. Fortunately I have a power converter behind the center console that I can run a USB off to the front.

Does the ipod communicate with the port e.g. play music... If so then It will charge; but only when the IGN switch is in the ACC or ON position... the port shuts off when the truck is off! And don't forget the selector button on the hu audio input screen MUST be assigned to the IPOD input (next to the CD, AUX, FM, AM, SIRIUS...etc) or it won't work.

Just like those misleading USB ports at the airport, the USB port will barely charge your phone. If you are using location services, internet, map apps, etc. concurrently - good luck getting a charge. Use the socket in the center console to get a quick charge. USB 3.0 and quick charge get my nexus 5x from 10-15% to between 95-98% on my 35 minute commute.

In other words, use your wall charger.

Put a real charger in the socket and go through that. The USB does very little.

USB won't charge new power hungry phones.

Happens to me frequently. turn off vehicle, plug it back in and restart. Should recognize it. At least that my experience.

It didn't recognize the iPhone or Usb at all. It worked fine until this week.

My 13 LE port is only USB 2.0, max 0.5A output. Not enough to really charge a smartphone especially if you've got apps running. I can watch my battery drain while running Google Maps and streaming music if I use the USB internal port. I run a 12V adapter with 2.1A output and life is good.

Still sounds like the port is dead as the charging output should have no correlation with recognizing the phone. Power vs. data.

Not sure if Toyota upgraded to USB 3.0 on newer models. You get 0.9A output with 3.0 which is better but I bet most phones today can manage a higher input current for charging.

I assume you're using a bonafide Apple cable?

I know on my Samsung S5, I had to go into the phone and click on something to make it charge, it was not charging and using it as a data transfer, but I forget what exactly I had to do.

I now have an extension cord running from the plug in the back up to the front, and just plus the phone into it to charge.

This started happening with my wife's iphone 6plus about a month ago. It just simply stopped recognizing her phone through usb. Bluetooth works fine though. Sometimes holding down the power button until the head unit restarts will get it. It recognizes my iphone 5s every time though. I haven't had time to take it to the dealer for this or for the head unit locking up every 30 minutes. I may just replace the whole damn thing with something good from Alpine or Kenwood. I'm hoping an update from Toyota will fix it, I just don't know when I'll have time to take it in since the dealer is 90 miles away.

Restarting the head unit has worked a few times, but it's still not 100%. I'll ask about it next month at 15000 mile service.

So after checking with Toyota your usb port under the radio is NOT for charging your device ....it does have some power but it is for data transfer. The 12vsockets are for charging .
