I have had this Indian sounding guy call me 4-5 times. Claims my computer has a virus.
Don't fall for the "your pc is infected" BS!

lol got the same call a few months back. I pretended to be downloading everything he said to and he was getting all excited then I shut him down and chewed him out

My latest tactic for dealing with unwanted callers is to play them a little music. I try to pick something annoying and catchy. Like this...

I have a (now old) Beavis and Butthead phrase box that is SUPER LOUD. Keep it near the phone. Any time someone cold calls, I click the botton.."Heh, hehe ASSWIPE! hee hee hee hee" or "This SUCKS!" one of 5 very loud and hilarious phrases

The first thing that tipped me off was a very heavy indian accent and the guys name is Bob, or Larry, or Phil…. I tell them hang on for a second. Then I let the phone sit on the counter.

I got that call a bunch of times which was funny because I'm a Mac user. The last time they called I looked at the caller ID and knew it was them so I answered: "Oh No! Not another virus!" The guy on the other end said "F*ck You!" and hung up on me. Haven't gotten a call since.

Another good tactic I used when I had little kids was to hand the phone to them to handle the call.

If I'm in a real bad mood I sometimes talk to them at great length and ask them how to turn on the computer, access the files, check what's wrong, etc... Except when they tell me what to do, I tell them nothing happened--I'm usually far away from the computer and cooking breakfast, driving, cleaning the guns, etc.

I figure if these asstards are wasting time on me, they can't be scamming someone.

Also, apparently there are now scammers pretending to be IRS agents demanding payment over the phone by debit card, and threatening jail time if you don't pay (or loss of license, deportation, etc.)

They called my wife, and she handed me the phone. I asked the guy for his name and phone number and that he'll be hearing from my accountant and lawyer within 15 minutes. Oddly he hung up...

This is becoming a pretty big deal. Oh, and there are way too many gullible people out there.
