I've been shooting adventure images in WA for 6 years and have had stuff break, fail, repaired, and just simply praying to the camera gods to resurrect my gear at the end of the day. I shoot with full frame dslr's so there's a weight, bulk, and durability associated with it too. Taking my light kit of 12-15lbs of gear through miles of backcountry or a few thousand feet of climbing makes me question why I do it...most all the time!

And like you mentioned id be afraid of breaking my camera either from falling or dropping it. $3k+ in camera gear getting ruined would be heart breaking. one time I took up a $200 point-n-shoot and was filming a buddy and he white washed me ruining the camera, if it was my DSLR I probably would have drop kicked him. I use a GoPro now but its not the same, cant get shots like yours

taking a stab at some composites.
used a picture i have of the eiffel tower and me, plus stock photo of sand and the helmet.

The last few weekends have been amazing with all the new snow. Just one photo made possible by my T4R and where its taken me since I got it a couple weeks ago. High above and far beyond the resort crowds in the East Peak backcountry.

this past weekend it was bitter cold here in Denver, temps at or below 0. snuck out to play in the snow with the 4Runner and my camera

Got out for a little exploration last Saturday, amid our freezing & sub-0 temps. My wife and I went up to Rocky Man National Park (our playground) to look for nice wintery scenes.
We were greeted by plenty of snow, winds @ 15-20mph (near constant over the Winter months in Rocky) and beautiful skies (sunset) after the snow had fallen on Friday & Saturday!
