**Photography Talk**

Ah...glad to see fellow photography fans on here. I've been shooting as my main hobby for several years and love it. I use Canon gear (7D and S95 primarily) and really enjoy night shots. Cityscapes are my favorite and I try to take one of each city I travel to, if there is anything worth capturing. Other than that, I have a wide variety of stuff I've tried...it's all fun.

My pans range from 4-50 images stitched together, depending on the perspective and how much detail I want to get out of it. I use my 24-70 2.8L the most, but a 70-200 2.8L for the more detailed ones.
 
Canon Shooters

need a little help with a decision. right now i shoot with a Canon 6D FF and mostly with the 17-40F4L. ive been eyeing the 16-35 f/2.8 for some time but that price tag is ouch!? from what ive read the two lens are pretty close in quality in that f/8-f/11 range for landscapes, i do a lot(mostly) of night shooting....is that price tag worth it for the extra stop? the time it would really come in handy is star trails and those times where i want more DOF.

its normally $1699, but best buy has it for $1558 on sale and Canon has $200 rebate running so if im going to get it..nows the time. for those who have it whats your take? is it worth that price?

Love the atmosphere / weather. Also a matter of time before I get this Austin night-scape blown up before putting it on the wall :) More contributions to come. I shoot a bit of everything!

How much are used 17-40mm going for? Seems like if you get the 16-35mm, there would be no need for it.
 
In case you don't browse the Magnetic Grey or what'd you do today threads; or 5th Gen Forum etc...heres my '13 TE. :D

i would sell my 17-40 if i picked up the new one. used they are getting around $600. so out of pocket im looking at around $1000 for the 16-35

I'm currently shooting a 5D MkIII and have a 16-35 f/2.8. It's a really nice piece of glass but I'm not sure it's $900-$1000 nicer then the 17-40 f/4. If I didn't have either one then I'd go with the 16-35. When faced with a decision between two really close choices, I tend to lean towards the higher end just because I'd end up upgrading in the future anyways. :D

Does anyone want a Nikon EL-5? It's the battery AC adapter for a D5000, D3000, D60, D40X and D40. You would still need to have the EH-5A chord. I bought this a while back thinking it was the EL-5B for my D800, but just realized today that it's not. Free of course. I'll even ship it free since it's Christmas.

Yep. They restrict the record times to keep the classification of them as a photo camera and not a video camera. Different licensing applies to video cameras.

is there a way to bypass that? i heard from some is to prevent the sensor from over heating but that all sounds like a buncha crap to me

It's not because of that. Many of the DSLR cameras and video cameras share the same exact sensor. And I'm not aware of any way to bypass it. You feel the need to film for longer than 10min a lot?

yeah im trying to take a digital video class, be a lot easier if i can just use my dslr instead of a camcorder
 
Well, I'd say you'd rarely need it. When we first got into video, we were filming on a Canon 5d mk ii and it limits time at 12min. We actually found it kind of nice because we shoot a lot of interview-based stuff and it gives a good excuse to take a quick break if the person is starting to run on. Now we use it as a b-roll camera, but still probably shoot in around 5min bursts 95% of the time.
