As promised, I've reviewed the available options (I prefer to use B&H Photo Video; Adorama will also carry the same products):
Depending on budget, there are two that "I" would buy if my requirements were the same as yours:

Thanks! It's a Nikon D800. Most of my more recent stuff is with a Nikon 24-70 f2.8 lens. It rarely comes off the camera since I got it.

Any thoughts of going to the D810? I doubt I will. Seems more like a slight update than an actual replacement.

that's exactly what I am looking for thank you. ill just now have to think about the price. its almost small laptop price, but of course this is a much smaller device and more portable
I went to microcenter last night (local computer store) and they were as useless as Best Buy and the other camera stores.

Me & Microcenter are well-versed (I live in metro Denver too).
A quick search of other 'purchase points' for said devices came up with just B&H Photo Video and Adorama.
Before you go to Mike's Camera and lose your ever-loving-mind, don't bother. I won't give them the time of day.

My D800 isn't even 6 months old so no current plans for a D810. I agree that the x10 models seem more like an update than a full on upgrade. Right now the D800 does everything I want and a lot more.
Yeah I was having a lot of AF problems with the D600, especially in low light situations that I run into a lot on the trail. Often the AF couldn't get a proper lock or was locking onto the wrong thing when using multi-point AF. Did a bunch of reading on it and it seems that low light AF is one of the things the D800 does a lot better.

LMAO, sorry...Those guys 'try' but when I have to call 'em on BS then SHOW them they are wrong, I tend to just avoid the insanity (had a sales guy tell me that the Canon 5D Mk III only had a CF card slot; called him on it when I was their to do a hands-on prior to purchasing elsewhere).
When I showed him the camera had a CF slot and an SDHC slot, he was rather embarrassed!
When it comes to photo gear, I now only deal with:

2Filter.com (for LEE Filters, if Unique Photo or B&H do not have in stock)
and if absolutely necessary, Adorama (they are ok, just not as game-on as B&H in my opinion).

Oh man. When I lived in NYC I swore I would never go back there again. I have caved a bit as I've ordered things from them online, but I'm holding to the never going there in person!

Dude me too!!! I got into it with the top guy at Nikon to replace it but he wouldn't. I am so pissed about that more than the spots issue. Did you just sell and upgrade? or were you able to work something out with Nikon?
I feel like I had better AF on my D5000 than this thing.

Nah, I just bought the D800. Not sure if I'll hang onto the D600 as a backup or eventually sell it.

Does anyone around here use Final Cut Pro for any photos or editing? I use my Go Pro Hero 3 Black, plus my Canon. I am really looking for something more Mac friendly as everything I own is Mac. i.e. my iMac, Macbook Pro, iPad mini, iPhone, you get the picture. If anyone has any cool phone editing apps they know about I would appreciate that too.

How do you feel about Premier? I used that to make a few videos and its a major PIA, is final cut easier? or better?

I've been shooting video a fair bit on the trail this summer. Im going to compile all of my clips until the end of Fall and make a wheeling video before the winter wheeling season hits.
I was wondering what editing program to start playing around with, I'll have to give Final Cut Pro a try. Just picked up a 27" iMac too! stoked.

I haven't used Premier at all, but my brother has started using it more. I should start as well. I think the worry is that most people who use FCP hate FCP X. We still use FCP 7, but I assume there will be a time where the most current OS won't be compatible with 7.
Don't even start using iMovie unless you want a brain aneurysm. I highly recommend FCP 7. We can chat more...

I have only used FCP X, and my former roommate did some awesome stuff with it. I am just trying to get on that level. Guess it will just mean spending more time with it on the ole mac doing editing.
But for stills I am under the impression that lightroom is where its at. Any special hints about Lightroom that anybody want to throw out there?

Hahah Roger. FCP 7 it is. Or should I start with Premier? I used to work with Premier in high school a little bit but it's been 10+ years since I touched it, so I doubt any skill with the program remains.
I've used Photoshop, Aperature, and Lightroom. IMO Lightroom is the cats ass. You just need to get your folders and everything setup and become familiar with the tools. It's an incredible program. I have created a few of my own "presets" so it makes editing the average photo a breeze. Click on my baseline preset and adjust exposure/white balance etc from there. Even for major editing projects, there are a tonne of tools to help. Layer masking is always cool!
