Hahah Roger. FCP 7 it is. Or should I start with Premier? I used to work with Premier in high school a little bit but it's been 10+ years since I touched it, so I doubt any skill with the program remains.

I want to start using Premier just to familiar myself with it and be more flexible when it comes to editing, but I'm so used to FCP...

The other thing I highly recommend is (if you don't already) shoot your video with a FLAAT profile. It will give you more flexibility in your post production. You're on a Canon, right?

I've used Photoshop, Aperature, and Lightroom. IMO Lightroom is the cats ass. You just need to get your folders and everything setup and become familiar with the tools. It's an incredible program. Agreed. I used Lightroom for probably 90% of editing with say the last 10% cleanup in Photoshop.

I second that on Lightroom! I know a good photographer that likes to just use Photoshop and he sets up a lot of batch operations, but I like to put a base correction on it and then go through and tweak'em individually. Lightroom allows me to do that really fast.

Thankfully I haven't had any issues with FCP 7 since moving to Mavericks. I cannot say the same for my overall OS. I can count the number of times my previous Macs have frozen up on me on one hand however with Mavericks, it seems to be at least a weekly occurrence.


Our local annual Seafair was this weekend. Got out on the lake and snapped some shots of the Blue Angels. Here are a few.

Yup, Canon 6D. No idea what FLAAT profile is. I will need to look into it. Great jet photos BTW, I was creeping them on flickr.

Agree. Upgraded the OS from Snow Leopard to Mavericks on my Macbook Pro. It was old and fast before and instantly became a hunk of sh** once I upgraded the OS. It is literally 50x slower and freezes on the reg.

It's a profile that essentially takes a lot of the contrast, saturation and other things out of the video when you shoot it. It allows a much better profile to make changes once in post. I recommend finding a FLAAT profile for photos too!

Those are epic photos you have there. That is the type of photography I am trying to get into. I did the smart phone camera to Nikon D5200, but mine don't come out as clear as that. Is it a settings or lens thing?

Both settings and a good lens are important, but I'd say the most important thing is to know what you are shooting and then the best way to shoot it. I have an amazing camera, amazing lenses and settings all over the place, but I really don't have an understanding on night sky photography, so someone with much less as far as physical equipment could take much more amazing photos than me for sure.

Right on. Yeah I have only really gotten good astro photos when I used someone else's settings then they turned out okay.
I am only using kit lens though. Dang all school tuition.

No bits crying mate I wanted to make them smaller but I kind of don't know how. I thought it was just programs like lightroom that could resize photos. Unless I can do that with Nikons software.

Now that's a response I'd be more than happy to try and help out. I'd say the majority of us use an online photo hosting site like flikr or photobucket. Once your photos are loaded on there, you can link the image file to your reply. I think the 1024 x 683 is the best size to use on here. If any of that is confusing or you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.
