Not selectively. You could using some ps techniques by blending exposures....but don't worry about that stuff yet, just have fun shooting!

Love shots like this!! Have a friend who did some shots like this with steel wool at Delicate Arch just after evening twilight...W I C K E D!!!

I had to make a run to REI, so I took a slightly longer route, so create an image of my 4R-TEP at Davidson Mesa looking at the Flatirons above Boulder, CO. Barcelona Red really pops when it's clean & detailed! :D

did he get a bunch of weird looks? i bet thats an awesome shot lighting it all up. i want to try at red rocks one of these nights.

that red does look clean. its a good looking red

There were only 2 other people there at that point. Most folks are not prepared to hike back to their vehicle after sunset / twilight (no flashlight or headlight), so the 2 remaining were just as into the situation as he was!!

This whole "mod" disease is killing me; I've spent way too much time looking at rims & tires the last week+, but think I've found a great combo that will most likely be purchased once I return from being on the road for the bulk of October (client shoot in Telluride the 1st weekend then off to my fall colors road-trip thru 02 Nov). Probably order up Shrockworks Rock-Sliders once I return as well.

You might consider shooting at Red Rocks Amphitheater on 8 October at ~8pm. Blood Moon. Here's what the situation would look like (see PDF):

lucky, the times ive been to delicate arch for sunsets it seems like a tour bus was hanging out.

red rocks calendar is empty on 10/8, i just might have to check it out. thanks for the tip. i did lookout mtn for this last big moon. my first time up there.
where do you go for fall colors? i need a new area....one w/o a lot of people. I should hopefully be around for the fall. doing a lot of traveling in Sept but end of Sept i should be back

I'll post a more detailed reply this evening; kind of go where my gut tells me the best color will be and then follow the changing across the state.

More info later! :)

So, to expound further:
I generally look to Dallas Divide area, Anthracite Range / Kebler Pass and even up towards Snowmass Lake (hike up past Crater Lake at the base of the Maroon Bells and Sleeping Sexton).

A buddy of mine produced a fantastic eBOOK for Colorado Fall Colors. :)

There are a number of great areas to explore for sure. I'd look at Marshall Pass as one that may not have a lot of people, but definitely a lot of aspen trees along the drive!

I may try to hit up a couple of areas the last weekend in Sept, before I head out to Telluride for a client shoot, then off for my 3-1/2 week road-trip through the upper-midwest, New England states & mid-south.

on that link his first mention is Kenosha Pass, funny cause that's where I usually end up. its great but crowded. some times I take Weston Pass over in to Leadville, that's a nice drive.
thanks for those tips, ill be traveling most of Sept so seeing some colors may be difficult but ill have them for next fall.

the NE during the fall is on my bucket list, looks amazing from the pics I've seen.

I've been planning this fall colors trip since Nov 2013. I'll still try to get out a few weekends (last in 2 in Sept and the client shoot the 1st in Oct) before heading on the road.

Now that I have my 4R TEP, I've got a few other locations I'll try out and see how they fare. :P

I've been looking at the suggested sites and watching some youtube vids to get more versed in the nomenclature.

Not gonna lie all the settings and parameters are a little overwhelming at first. Cant wait to really get into it though. Thanks again and here's to contributing to this thread sooner than later! There have been some incredible photos in here lately.

Cheers.

Just throw it in Auto or P mode and start taking pics! Let the camera make the decisions for you, then see what it chose for different situations. After you take a bunch of pics in Auto mode switch to aperture priority and take pics of the exact same thing at different aperture settings (leave it in auto ISO for now) to see the differences. Then take more pictures. Then take some more.
