I spoke with the company that does the commissioning. they have pre-picked 5 of my images and will present to a hotel that is being built in Denver, CO. if chosen:
"it is a non-exclusive agreement and that it features the 30USD per image fee, if used for the feature wall and 100USD per image if used to the guestrooms. The agreement will give us the rights to produce artworks only for this one hotel in Denver"
does this seem to be standard pricing? do they have to pay per room or just a flat $100usd for the image and could potentially put in 1000 rooms. it would be great to be chosen and be able to see my images up in a swanky new hotel, just want to make sure I am not getting taken advantage of or low balled.
Hepar thank you.
they sent over the agreement but I haven't read it thoroughly.
i have never sold or let anyone use my images before, wasn't sure what to expect on the price.

Personally speaking, I would run away from that deal.
This language "it is a non-exclusive agreement and that it features the 30USD per image fee, if used for the feature wall and 100USD per image if used to the guestrooms. The agreement will give us the rights to produce artworks only for this one hotel in Denver" is total horsecrap; $30/image for a feature wall and $100 for a guest room? Good Lord…not only are the prices $h!t (IMO), but backwards; FAR more visibility on a feature wall than in a guest room.
Yes, it is $$…but it is a-typical of business trying to screw the photographer. You do it for a hobby, but you still had to PLAN / GO / DO. Those all mean you have earned the right & ability to get more for your efforts!
If more photographers stuck to their guns and made clients pay reasonable rates, the industry wouldn't be so over-run with crap (again, my opinion, but a lot of images I see being used are really not 'that' great…nor do they meet the actual goal).
If you are still interested, I would suggest negotiating for better rates. Do some research on photo pricing. For example, this link (Getty Image pricing) would suggest $1870 for up to 5 images with a 20 year lifespan for this type of agreement.
Again, consider (if option still exists) negotiating for better rate!!
I would assume that those two price points are reversed. And he could ask for more money, but I'd be willing to bet they'd tell him to shove off given his lack of portfolio. For essentially stock photos, that's not too far off on cost. If they are commissioned pieces, then yes, way off base.
I had a hotel in Adelaide, AU ask me for a couple of images, after a 6-week stay. The Marketing Manager wanted the images for free. After asking them if they worked for free, I received an actual $ offer (which was, of course, a low-ball).
