You guys have some great work on here. I haven't done photography in 8 years, but I am just getting back into it now that my Instagram account is getting busier... So, yeah, I am at hobby/noob level all over again.

I definitely need to find a new site for photo sharing that is not mobile driven (Instagram)...

Good point on apple based OS, the mavic takes video in .MP4 and .MOV neither format is editable on the windows video editor I downloaded. But again, my work laptop is still running windows 7....

Sony Vegas can accept practically anything on the timeline and it's very easy to mix video formats and still photos as well as generated media.

You just toss it all on the timeline and edit away.

It's on sale right now, which means a new version could be on the way.. Sept? .. that's often a popular month. or whenever NAB is held.

I think it's $400 right now. Once you are a registered user when they introduce a new one they will say ok, the upgrade is $200 or whatever. But for a short time, like 30 days, they give registered users and extra $100 off.

Also unless you really need the cutting edge stuff you can easily skip versions. In fact you could look back through the version to about 10 and see if it fits your needs spec-wise and maybe find an old copy on eBay.

Vegas has been a very strong program all the way back to version 3. I think around 10 was when Sony bought them.

I don;t know where all the stuff is now but the .veg file is very small. that's basically your timeline w/FX sans media. So very small. There used to be and I expect still are tons of those out there for all sorts of complex moves in Vegas. Then there is a scripting language on top of that. It can become very deep.

do you guys/gals carry insurance on your camera gear? I have invested over $10,000 in camera gear and didn't insure it until today. I added the extra coverage to my home insurance policy. I don't know if that was the right way to add it but it was reasonably priced at only $85/year extra.

Yes.. i had a personal properties policy.. great peace of mind.. started booking some on-location gigs so upgraded to business insurance.. covered for damages and personal injury.. just in case a light stand falls on something / someone

I'm relatively new to the 4Runner/overland world but have had a camera in hand since I was about 7. Part of my excitement over the new purchase of a T4R and upcoming move to Colorado is a whole new world of photography opportunities. Had about enough of the urban decay here in Philly. Here's one or two for the thread.

You don't need to spend a whole lot of money. Buy used at KEH.com, watch camera reviews on Youtube, read lens reviews on FMreview.com.

Nope. I generally leave the house with one lens. I can replace that setup for < $1k, easily. I only buy old, used crap though. Ha.

There are a number of mechanisms for insuring gear; high-value item rider on home owners policy is one way. Another is gear insurance through PPA, NANPA, etc.

Either way, it is a good idea to have the gear covered when you've invested that much (first thought I had when I went over the $10K mark was insurance).

I have insurance under my brothers business insurance. I think now we've got over $50k in equipment and with the amount we (mostly he) travel with work, it would be stupid not to have any sort of coverage.

Same to you! Detroit is the urban decay meca yeah? Went once for Movement but didn't get too far from Hart Plaza. There's a great ski video where they build out jumps through some of the abandoned spots, really cool shots there. Hope to see you out on a trail one day!

I keep looking back at that tall cactus photo, it's great. I could see it In the pages of an anthropologie catalog or on the wall of some chic LA home goods store. Clean and minimal :roll:
