Not sure where to put this since it's something a little new. Put together a photostory of my 4Runner on a recent trip from Aspen, to the top of Independence Pass on CO-82, and down the other side. I shot the pics a week ago--it was sunny and warm in Aspen, but 20 miles to the top and it was 32 degrees and gusting to 40+ mph. Today, it's waaay colder up there, probably a bunch of snow, and apparently the conditions are so treacherous that the Colorado DOT closed it temporarily. It'll close for good probably late October and not open again until late May.
It's a beautiful drive. The leaves weren't as pretty this year since we had some freezing temps. The aspen leaves turn a bright yellow.
Kinda sad, but it's probably my last trip up to the pass. I'm finished with my training in Aspen and will be going back to Missouri. I'm hoping to visit again during the ski season.

Going up the Aspen side of the pass, there's a little guardrail, but it's still a looong way down. Over on the Twin Lakes side, there isn't a guardrail and it's even steeper. Kinda hard to tell, but those last several photos are shot with the 'Runner perched out on a little spot. Literally a few feet more and it'd be a long plunge down the mountain side. The pic of the little plaque "Frank Lutz III, pure habenero, June 2004" is a mystery to me. It's perched out on that little side spot and the marker is surrounded by some rocks. Don't know if Frank plunged off here to an untimely death (that does happen), or maybe somebody scattered his ashes here, but it's an awesome view either way.
Music is Cream, "I Feel Free". Seemed to fit perfectly with how I feel when I drive or ride up there.
