I was able to install my PIAA 520 ATP's (All-Terrain Pattern) lights over the weekend. HUGE thanks to A10MileHusker for coming over to my house and helping with the install. Having someone there who has done a similar install was a big help. Not to mention the advantage of having another set of hands. :bigok:

I used the PIAA instructions and the wiring diagram that Iron Clad Lou had posted in his write up of his Hella's with an OEM Tacoma fog light switch. Thanks for making that diagram, Lou! Between those two diagrams we were able to make it turn out very nice. The OEM Taco switch was icing on the cake, making for a very clean, stock appearance in the interior.

Below is a pic of the final product. I apologize for the cell phone pic, but it is the only one I have. I don't have a pic of the OEM Taco switch either but if people want to see it, I will post it.

We mounted 6 inch mending plates under the bumper so they wouldn't show. They wiggle around a little while driving but I'm thinking of drilling another hole on each side behind the lights and under the grill to mount another screw, still keeping the mending plates underneath the bumper but providing a little more stability. Husker, might need your dremel and drill bit again. :)

No worries, it's the least I could do!

We might have to tackle the diff breather mod together next. Cheap and easy....my kind of mod! I can drive over to your place next time.

YES! First, do you have the part numbers still available?

Secondly, the only problem with my house is because it's on the market I never know when I'm going to get a call from a Realtor saying that I need to be out of the house in 20 minutes so he/she can show it. But if you want to start working later (after 5) than I'm all for it but that's pretty much our only option with my place.

I'm for anything!
 
How much light do these put out? Are they fairly white? If it's not too much trouble, do you think you could take some pics of the road lit up with your headlights, then one with the headlights and the 2 PIAA's? Thanks in advance, I am thinking about getting 4 of these on a light bar. :)

They put out a good amount of light. I'm still trying to dial them in a bit as far height. They are VERY white which I like alot. I am going to look into PIAA replacement bulbs for my headlights and fog lights now.

I'll try to take some pics tonight.

Were you planning on mounting them to your bumper or some kind of light bar/safari bar/bull bar?

As you can tell, the PIAA's are significantly whiter and brighter than the stock headlights. I need to do a better job of aiming them, but it gives you a good idea of what the beam pattern looks like. I am going to look into buying PIAA replacement bulbs for my headlights and fog lights if PIAA makes compatible bulbs.

they do. (i assume so, they for sure do the fogs which is i believe a 9006) i had some in my 3rd gen and they look great. not a whole lot brighter but certainly an upgrade. i had the piaa gold in my fogs and the piaa super whites in headlights its a good combo.

Very cool, thanks Chris. I might do the super whites all the way around. I'm also thinking of modding the fogs so I can run them with my parking lights.
 
Yes you do need to aim them better . Looks like they are shining in the approx same spot as low beam/fogs .

Yeah, the driver side light was aimed a little low. I think raising that one up will help. Also, it's hard to see where I took those pics (and the poor quality of the pics) but there was a field behind it that was lit up pretty well with the lights but didn't really show on my camera phone.

I think I am going to try to remount them so they don't bounce around as much, so I'm trying not to let my OCD about aiming them get too crazy until I do that. :)

G.I.G, my PIAA's are coming in on Friday. I'm curious...did you mount your switch on the dash or use one of the blanks on the center console? Seems like some one on the forum has used the console, and I don't have any blanks on my dash, thus I'm trying to determine which part number applies to the switch I need. I seem to recall the thread I saw mentioned an Aux Light switch for FJ Cruisers. Can't locate that thread now...
 
GIG can you post an image from the side so i can see how close these are to the grill and how much they stick over the bumper, thanks
