After having a run-in with an uninsured driver last month and totaling my 06' LE V8, I'm happy to say that I'm back in another 4Runner again. So now I've had a 3rd, 4th and 5th Gen.
I was initially planning on waiting for the 2014 to come out before deciding to either buy one or, if I didn't like the refresh, pickup a 13'. That fact my 06' was totaled and I use it as a work vehicle, I had no choice but to buy one now. I looked into a brand new one but decided against it due to the fact that A) I put a lot of miles on my T4R's and I'd probably cringe racking up miles on a BRAND NEW rig and B) I wasn't seeing too big of a discount on the new ones and didn't feel it was worth spending $40K on a car with a refresh that is already in production and finally, C) I could pick up a lightly used one and pay cash for it.
Soooooo....I picked up a 2011 LE with black interior and 29K miles. Car had everything I wanted so I pulled the trigger. So far, I really like it. While I immediately found myself missing the V8, this was really the only thing I liked better about the 4th Gen. (Well, I guess I'm also not a fan of one other thing but I'll address that below.) Don't get me wrong, I loved the 4th Gen but I just think I was ready for a change.
Since I got the car a few weeks ago, I've hardwired the radar under the review mirror and picked up a few accessories such as all-weather mats, cargo cover, tonneau cover, shorty antenna and some Rhino roof crossbars.
I guess the only issue I have with the car is the tires/wheels. The original Geolanders are on the car and apparently, one of them is cupped and giving me the shimmies at around 65mph. I had Discount Tire "balance" the wheels and then went to Toyota to have them Roadforce balanced. While the recent one helped, it still shakes. The Toyota "tech" told me one of the wheels is cupped. I've read the numerous threads about others experiencing the shaking so I'm hoping new tires will solve the problem. If not, I want to try and get whatever is causing it fixed before I get out of warranty.
With the said, since I am needing new tires, I am now contemplating what to do about the wheels. I'm not a huge fan of the wagon wheel 20" wheels and I really hate the fact they are 7" wide :crazy:. So at this point, I'm either going to say screw it and put on some 275/55/20 Michelin LTX's or dump the 20" wheels completely and pickup a set of 4the Gen Limited 18" wheels and the same Michelins. I've read the millions of threads about putting a 7.5" tire on a 7" wheel and I'm just not sure what I want to do. Keep in mind, I DO NOT go off-roading unless you count driving down and occasional dirt road as off-roading:biggrin1: What route would you go?
