Picked up this 99 beauty with 67k miles!

Once i save up i will most likely give it a 3' fj cruiser lift, some 17' beadlock with 33' coopers stt pro's, as well as front/rear plate bumper and some rock sliders.

A 3 foot lift and 33 foot tires? Dang man can't wait to see the progress! Joking aside....that is a great find. Congrats!

Seriously??

thats nuts

At this point on a 3rd gen and considering the pedigree and proven longevity of these now I would say anything south of 140k miles could be claimed as "low mileage."

I know and agree that sounds nuts. Even in the 90's I considered 100k high mileage on any vehicle. But, as vehicles are increasingly able to go longer I think we will see that change and Toyotas in general are at the top of that list, especially our generation trucks. And even other vehicles that have proven long life are similar...XJ's come to mind (see them listed all the time as low mileage with 130-160k). And for sure cruisers...anything with low 100's on a cruiser is low and you can easily drop $20k on a cruiser with 200k miles.

I'm assuming you ran a CarFax, but if you didn't, do it now.
With all the weird stickers and the fake lights, it's obvious he was trying to get some more money for illegitimate reasons.
Light bulbs aren't expensive and the 'Limited' and 'Supercharger' decals might trick the unsuspecting/uninitiated.

The ODOs on these trucks CAN be rolled back. I looked at a 99 with supposedly 105k on it, but the CarFax said that it really had over 300k. It ran great but it was still dishonest.

Run a CarFax to see if it's worth actually spending any time on this thing.

Exactly what I thought when I saw 67K miles; I wouldn't be surprised if it were 267K, just didn't want to burst his bubble... But then again, I might be a bit envious if it really is 67K since I bought mine @ 230K! ;)

I admit I looked a LOT and the lowest I even saw in a 3rd gen was 112k. So ya I'll hope the best but the carfax is good advice as it should confirm or raise more suspicion.

Of course I ran carfax before buying! 2-3k a year consistently

Also I had my first hiccup today, I changed all the gear oil at work and decided to drive it straight for just to get the gears going.
I shifted in 4HI no problem, I then stopped, shifted in neutral and attended to shift in 4LO. It made a grinding sound and would not go(I had very light pressure on the handle). The shifted was then stuck in N in a way, because I then attempted to shift to 4HI and it made the same noise and wouldn't go. I though maybe it was something wind up related so I gave it some gas, put it in reverse, but nothing helped. I then turned the Car off and I was able to move the shifted anywhere from 2HI to 4Hi to 4lo. Drove off with no problems and haven't attempted to shift in 4lo since. My question is, did I really duck up my transfer case? It only has 67k miles and I nearly shit myself when this happened haha.

I always shut off my truck shifting from 4hi to 4lo. I too get grinding noise is neutral.

My 97 has never made any grinding noise going into 4Hi, 4low or neutral, it may not be a bad thing per say but it shouldn't be normal...

Got an update, the problem was I wasn't shifting from 4Hi to 4Lo fast enough. You aren't not supposed to let the stick rest in N, but directly go from Hi to low in few seconds.

However I don't know if this was like before, but my transfer case is making some bad sounds, like a very very subtle rod knock type of sound. I can kinda feel it in shifter while in drive. However I can't feel it while In park.

I am freaking myself out and you guys have the same? Or do I have a problem here

So I can shift mine while running but it can grind a little. I too just shut it off and shift it most of the time because it stops any spinning in the tcase and it won't grind. I learned this with my Jeeps. Also helps if you park on a slight hill so you can coast an inch or so forward or backward if need to help it mesh. You shouldn't have to do this each time at all but I think it's not a bad practice when you can.

I finally learned the same thing when shifting the transfer case from 4Hi to 4Lo. When I'd try to slowly ease it into 4Lo, it would lightly grind then go in. When I shift it quickly from 4Hi to 4Lo, no gear grinding.

Don't know about the sound you're experiencing though.

Mine makes no noise when shifting between hi and lo and I also have no issues with putting it in N. Maybe because it was a Cali rig it wasn't engaged in 4wd much, if at all?

You are shifting straight cut gears with no synchros and no clutch when going form Hi to Lo (think, little two speed manual transmission). Stop the truck, put it in neutral, give the trans output a chance to fully stop, then just bang it up or down. Never do it while the truck is moving, unless you need to do a 1-2 inch roll to get the gears to align.

Slow = grinds if the engine is on. Fast = clicks right in place. Don't be afraid.

Expect gear noise in Lo, though it should be pretty quiet.
