Lift with X-REAS system installed ?

I'm really hoping a lift becomes available for X-REAS equipped 4Runners too.

I plan on having it on my 2004 LTD when I order it. After driving a 4Runner with and without the X-REAS system I prefer the handling of the X-REAS equipped one alot more than the one without it.

Also having the X-REAS on a slightly lifted (2") 4Runner would/could compensate for any "tippiness" or increase in body roll when cornering.

Lift

Lifting a X-reas system 4runner will be very difficult if not impossible at the current moment.

When you lift any vehicle, it requires changing the coil and the shock assembly. The problem with the X-reas is that the system is integrated into the Shock Assembly which means that if you plan to keep the X-reas system, you're stuck with that shock assembly. The most you can do is install a larger coil and reinstall everything w/o breaking the X-Reas pressurized lines.

There is a member on Yotatech.com that's planning to purchase the Daystar spacers when they become available and try to install w/o breaking the seals on the shock lines and see if it works. He is aware that there is no guarantee but he is taking one for the team to see if it works.

I think that it will work so long as you don't break the seals on the shock during the install but installing the spacers with the shock still in place will be very very difficult if not almost impossible. I have had the chance of removing the front suspension assembly to better understand my suspension and I will say that it is a pain in the rear to remove and reinstall w/o actually moving the shock around! I just hope that it works out in the end. Cross your fingers guys!

My suggestion is that if you plan or intend to lift the 4runner at all, don't bother with the x-reas system. you're better off this way as you'll be able to save the $$ for some other mods on your 4runner :)

Another way to look at it:

XREAS is for handling...mainly on-road.

Lifting is for off-roading.

So, if you're planning on lifting your 4runner, WHY ARE YOU EVEN CONSIDERING xreas???

Once you lift your 4runner, there is no XREAS system in the world that will allow you to take a corner aggressively.

Lifting your 4runner does NOT equal good on-road handling.

So, if you're planning on lifting, then sporty handling is the LAST thing on your mind, right??!!

Just my opinion.

To even furthur agree with Thai :), if you want some cornering vehicle, why not just drive a sedan or a sports car anyway? SUV/trucks are not meant to take aggressive corners :)

hehe

Out COG's are way too high that there is no way any system can make it drive like a porsche! we can try but good luck!

lift as I unerstand

XREA, as I have read is to help push the tire off the ground down when off road. Several articles show. Impressive, but not for me. That being said, I have seen spacer lifts and the one problem with it is repositioning of control arms and the change on throw on the shock that ensues. Could have been a bad job, but my friends Taco was blowing Ranchos regularly. I am getting a ICON 3" series 2 lift for my 2007 4runner. Gives good on/off road and ext. shock travel for when I get stupid.

p.s. I know the pic is a fishing one. I will try to post the truck after the lift and such. Having it done. Not as young as I used to be.

Not to beat a dead horse... but this thread died back in 2003 when the first 4th gen came out and no lifts were avaliable for such a new vehicle... There is plenty of info out there now on this and Xreas since 9 years have gone by... should let this one die again.. rather then resurrect it and make it just another thread on the same topics you see almost everyday :ybrick: errrg lol

lift as I understand

Sorry, new at the forum thing. Didn't even notice the date. Was just glad to be back in a Toyota and trying to see different looks. 1st 4runner though. Didn't mean to offend. By the way, nice ride. Hope mine turns out as well. Dead horse may now resume sleeping.
