Pics of light bars

I have an unexpected day off next week and would like to build a light bar for the front of my 2004. Im looking for designs and ideas similar to the Defiant, but wanted to see some pics of home made or custom jobs. Im thinking of going through the lower air dam and then having a small bar across to hold 2 or 4 lights. I might bend up the lower supports to have the lightbar closer to the main bumper and grill as opposed to the lower air dam. Nothing major but I want it stout with no vibrations, possibly with a prerunner hoop, not sure yet.

Anyhow, post up some pics of your front light bars or prerunner bars that utilize the factory bumper. I tried searching light bar and all that but it only came back with pics of LED light bars.

Here is my avid light bar. I haven't gotten around to mounting any lights on it yet, but it works great as a mount for my hi-lift :thumb3:

I have seen the defiant, and it looks decent, I just want to see some other options of keeping the stock bumper and adding a light bar. The offroad light thread only shows a defiant and was derailed by fall leaf photos lol

I too had a hard time looking for light bar options, most searches do come up with the LED light bars when I was looking for a bar to hold lights.

Through my searching, it seems like defiant is one of the few (and most popular) choices out there for light bars. i havent seen many others other than the defiant, unless they're custom built.

anyone out there know of any other choices?

Yep the defiant bar, bull bars, and now the Avid are about the only options I've seen in my time on this board. Unless you get something custom.

Paul at Defiant is willing to customize the Defiant bar in most ways you can think of, I was going to have a pre runner style bar built by him but never followed through.

I am not sure if Paul has anymore say in the "Defiant" brand anymore. Defiant is now TireGate. I am sad that they no long build a short tube 4 tab light bar for the 4Runner.

Are you kidding me? I read somewhere they were taking him under their wing or something, I didn't know he was out and they didn't do custom stuff anymore...

edit- just looked at the site.. why would they do away with 4 tab bars? Even the pictures show 4 tab bars...

I own Gaterose's defiant bar, and have mounted a 30" DR light bar to it. The defiants are extremely stable, and I get compliments on the front setup all the time. Do you not like the defiant?

And to the JAOS one, I haven't looked up on Burtman how much that would cost, but JAOS likes to think that their product is a premium over any other companies offering similar products, so it will probably be much more expensive than defiant, just assuming from prior experience.

yea, the jaos is way over priced but it too is strong, & sits slightly closer to bumper. i bought mine used so cost was about the same but had to paint it black. just posted that to say that other brands may be out there, like this Dakar bar by rampage - http://www.truckaddons.com/Catalog/subpages/Rampage_DakarBars.htm there was a guy on the forum that made his own for cheap, ill see if im can find it.

Not that I dont like the Defiant, its a great looking bar. I have the tools and a decent ability to build one so I figured I would do it myself since I have some scrap metal around. I mainly wanted to see some different options and determine if i wanted to keep it simple with just a straight bar or wrap it around and have a prerunner hoop over the lights.

Thanks guys, may just have to start cutting and welding and see what I end up with. Ill post pics when im done.

Also, whats the best place to buy those red ring HID lights? Ive seen some good reviews on them and think they will fit my needs. (please dont try and talk me into a $400 LED bar lol) Just trying to find a legit seller with good prices and decent customer service.

check out Zstampe's build thread, he had a custom one similar to defiant's old pre runner style on his. And also, the red ring HIDs you're referencing are most likely the Kragens, which are $115 a piece or so, so for the money, an LED bar would be worth it, because you'd end up spending very near the same thing, but the spread of a combo DR 30" LED is much more uniform, with no harsh spots, and only one wire to run and not four. Just my 2 cents, look forward to seeing your work!:wave:
