Ok maybe I can give something back since I have gained so much help with the messages here I cant express enough gratitude.
Ok so I bought the unit new on ebay for $380 with the 10% coupon and didnt plan to install it until a week or two when I got the other parts: scosche install kit, pac steering interface and some other items.
However a local dealer had the Metra kit which is designed for non-JBL units.
To be clear I have a 2003 Limited 6 Cylinder with a single disc player which wasn't JBL.
The Metra kit actually fit nicely and there really isnt any gap that you can see. I planned to just use it temporarily, but now I will just keep it.
The bigger surprise was that I thought for tonight I would just rig up the antenna on the dash, but when I was getting the harness in place, I noticed that the JBL models have a speaker in the dash and was thinking that the dash itself since its less than an inch and just plastic wouldnt block much of the signal.
Anyways here is what I did:
There is just enough room behind the stereo and to the right on top of the vent duct to place the metal sheet and then the antenna. A perfect hidden antenna.
I honestly was planning to be surprised if I got any signal at all, to my delight the signal seems to be very strong, even inside my garage I have multiple satellites.
The real test will be over the next week or so to see if it holds up, but so far so good and it certainly saved me some time, since I wasnt sure where I was going to mount it, and would love it out of sight.
So far my impression of this unit is that it seems excellent, and sound better to me than the stock unit.
The two issue with the 700 is that I need to figure out how to lower the system beeps, they are waaay to loud, and second I really would like to have the volume control be black, and the knob is removable , but plastic so if I can luck out and find a black anodized one I think the unit will look more stock.
I will post pictures next week when I have to fig back in to do the steering wheel controls.
