PITA Lift

Well today I started to lift my 4runner and what a pain. I was able to complete the driver side with not too many issues. Now the passengers side coilover is giving me some problems. The lower bolt is cocked half way out and I can't get it out. I'm using the 4runner jack to compress the upper arm too see if I can get the bolt out, but somehow it's not working for me. Any ideas I can try? And everyone said the front is the easiest, I'm not so sure I want to attempt the rear now. The lift I'm doing is the toytec ultimate (front coilovers w/ 890 and comfort shocks). Also, I'm dong the lift by myself with no power tools, just my standard sockets/wrenches. I should have planned better.

In my experiences I think the rear is actually the easiest.
Are you trying to get the stock strut assembly out? and the lower bolt won't come out? Try and hammer it out and/or use a prybar and hit it with a hammer if the threads are clear so you won't strip them. Try spraying some lubricant on the bolt as well. Should come out with no problem unless it's rusted on.....?

Correct, I'm trying to remove stock strut and the bolt it half way out but cocked. Bolt is not rusted, just being a stubborn.

OK, got it out. I compressed the upper arm some more and slowly loosened the top 3 bolts and I was able to pull it out. Sorry, I'm such a noob when it comes to wrenching plus this is my first lift attempt ever. Quick question, are you guys using threadlocker for the bolts? I caled toytec and they said to just torque to specs and no need for threadlock. Just curious?

When I did mine me am my buddy put some BLUE thread lock on the stud threads that screw into the top mount. You don't need it but it prevents the stud from coming out if/when you do remove the coil-overs. I recommend it. And loosen your upper control arm bolt and then retighten it when you get it to ride height. As well don't tighten the bottom bolt on the CO until it is sitting on the ground.

don't jack with the jack. loosen both control arms, remove the LBJ assembly and sway bar, make life easy. Re-tighten control arms (so bushings can reset to their new home) after truck is back on the ground -

Thinking about doing the same lift. Would love to see pics once you get it all done and put back together!

Did you have the sway end links loosened or removed? That will especially make it easier to install the lift coils. The rear really isn't too bad, just a tight spot for the rear shocks and then remove the rear sway end links and track bar to make the springs loosen up easier.
