Places to wheel near Colorado Springs

Any recommendations? what's open this time of year?

There are a few down there not sure about this time of year though make sure you check to see whats open even if its not gated you still can get a ticket if you are cought on a trail that is suppose to be closed for this time of year

Rampart range rd is closed due to the fire but there are a lot of trails off of old stage rd. Just go up the road a few mile and you'll find a lot of places to wheel.

We did Eagle Rock which is off of Gold Camp Road (Old Stage Rd. runs into it) and it was pretty clear up that way. Snow wasn't too bad.

Edit:

It's probably worth mentioning that my wife's 4Runner had to turn around, we did it in my truck that has a locker front and rear and is on 37's. There are still plenty of nice little side trails to explore in that area though.

I'm pretty sure Rampart Range rd is open for business. There're also a number of trails off of Mount Hermon Rd in Monument

We did Mt Baldy off of Gold Camp road a few weekends back.

The last quarter mile of the trail was all ice. The second vehicle going down turned over on its side. We got it back on all 4 wheels and he drove it home. Looks like it is going to be totaled though. Too bad, it was a real nice FJ.

Thats a real shame, man. I wonder if insurance will do anything for you in a case like that.

It was not mine but the owner is a real nice guy that always helps others.

It looks like insurance is taking care of it so he should be ok.

I've dirt biked there a couple times, it was pretty cool

I just went out there last night for some night snow wheeling. It was great blazing a new trail. Its amazing how much the landscape and terrain changes when its covered with a layer of fresh snow.
