Planning my Projector retrofit

No I just wired them to my parking lights. It sounded much easier lol! I'll get some higher quality pics later on when I can get everything cleaned and I'll get some of those for sure

haha thanks man! You can always make it a side project if you buy an extra set of lights. That way you don't have to rush into it like i did lol.

. Cool man! Yeah it's good to be different I couldn't think of anything as far as making it different, except for the LEDs. I'm excited to see it! I got these LEDs at VLEDs they are the 6 inch strips. They looke pretty tough I hope they last!

Haha yeah... I am a poor college student but if it comes to that point I think I'll be selling some body parts before I sell these lol. kidney, liver, fingers whatever i can come with. That project was almost too much for me. It for sure pushed my limits

I do have concern and wondering if anyone that has retrofitted may have some advice fo me

So i noticed that lights shimmer when i hit a bump. I took a look at it and sure enough the driver side headlight seems to have some play in it. Now its not the projector itself but its the actual headlight that sort of shakes against the black adjustment shroud.

Everything is on there that i know of. the spring, the adjustment bolts (this is not the one i broke either) when i adjust it way down it seems to tighten up but then the beam pattern has to be down too which i dont really want to do since i had it perfect the first time.

What baffles me is the passenger side is solid and i tried to match it with the driver side and still get that stupid play. gosh! im starting to turn green on this project lol

anyway any opinions would be appreciated

I have the shimmer as well but I don't believe my headlights have some play in them like you say yours does. I think its the just the extra weight of the projector making the headlight move or even the bulb shaking as well.

I have read, on hidplanet forums, other people having the shimmer effect when they hit bumps as well so seem to be a common problem.
 
thanks for clarifying that.

i think i have more play i then i should so im thinking on sticking some rubber spacers in there or something.
 
Question for your TRD.
You are using a winring relay from TRD correct?
Does your high beam indicator come on when you turn them on?

Im using the hi/lo apexicone harness from DDM. The D2s kit comes with an adapter that converts the connections to the D2s bulbs. It's really a nice setup how it plugs into the bulb and everything. i like it much better than the sping on the OEM connection. but yeah then that adapter just plugs into the Raptor blassast that i have.

Im pretty sure the hi-beam indicator turns on. It did before i had the projectors and was just running HIDs, Ill let you know if it desont though im pretty OCD about things like that so i dont think i noticed it not working.

dude glad you got it all done...your cutoff looks awesome..love the orange led strip...and mine shakes slightly if i hit a large bump like the rail road tracks or potholes at speed.

Also like the look of the bush guard with the side wings off..i might just do that to mine.
 
thanks man is it your housing that shakes a little? I can lift the housing up a little by lifting on the little glass pegs in the front so i think im gonna try to eliminate that this week with some rubber spacers ?

it was such a job though! so glad im done haha My OCD is bugging me as for the shaking though.

im still trying to decide if i like the brush guard like that. maybe if i see yours ill be able to decide haha. Ive been so busy haven't had much tome to lust these last couple of weeks. so not sure if im just going to ditch it or what.

I'm sure if you take the headlight off the car, you should be able to figure out why there is so much play. It shouldn't be too difficult. Even my Eagle Eyes have tons of play but that's expected from aftermarket junk quality right...haha. I might just end up retrofitting the OEM Toyota headlights off the truck now.

I took my Morimoto d2s retro apart on Friday. I will be using 3M high temp foil tape to block the light openings on the side of the projector since I was getting a little bleed when they were on inside the housing. I also forgot to glue the shrouds on with silicone. I bought the shroud centering rings from TRS, but definitely will need to secure them or else they could potentially fall out over huge bumps on the road. Also, I painted the back of the shield purple so it would reflect a different color in the housing during the day when they're off. I also had some dust in there that I wanted to clean out. I might leave the glass lens off until I get them back into the car to do an actual alignment test since I was told Eagle Eyes don't have a good horizontal alignment to begin with.

OCD FTW!

I still have project IS350 headlight to take care of that I've been slacking on. Those have AFS which is more sketchy to fool with.
 
thanks fightman, the video sucks compared to what it really looks like. i watching this on my ipod and looks kinda crappy.

binhsterbinh yeah man i took my headlights apart many times i found the play was in the lower adjustment nut its crazy i cant figure it out! good luck with your plans though man!! it sounds lie you know what your doing. haha.

can you please confirm whether your blue high beam indicator light in the dash works?
