Plasti-Dip First timer.

Plasti-Dipped 4-5 layers the Grill, Badges, Running Boards, And mud Flaps. Its seems a little fragile, im still waiting for it to cure (its been 2 days) maybe i should seal it or something. Anyway, let me know how you think.

Looks good!

Only thing I'd suggest is removing the plasti-dip from the inner parts of the toyota logo and only leave the logo itself black (on the rear hatch handle), if possible. Other than that, it looks very nice.

So.... when ya gonna black out your headlights? It would look awesome!

Any thought about the wheels? Take a look at this thread where 4runners did his wheels black with plasti-dip and left the center caps silver. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-g...sti-dipping-my-rims-black-check-out-pics.html

Looks like we've got another silver 4runner with black accents to add to the club :)
 
Looks GREAT!!! I think I might try that on my running boards, I currently have them removed but this looks interesting, although I think they'll get beat up and scratched easily from being stepped on...

How did you do the emblems? Just peeled off the overspray or what?

Thinking about it, Yet I might keep it stock. I might even just black out the inside of the lights.

That's usually a standard option on the Limited trim 4Runners, but I suppose some Sports and SR5's have them as well.

How did you do the emblems?
We (My wife and I )just bought painters tape, goo gone, scraper and plasti-dip and off we went
Steps i used:
1. Tape around the area you are painting making a square (simple)
2. Cover area around the square with news paper covering 2-3 ft away from the painting area
3. Detail work (yay :( ) use scissors and fill the gaps between the lettering with the tape.
4. Spray away let dry spray away.
5 Goo-gone for the excess spray that made it to your Runner

Ps. I tryed to remove the "4RUNNER" and failed putting it back on (i thought i was smarter that my wife) i used 3m adhesive 90 to put it back on but i over sprayed and now stuck with it on the truck for a while Just peeled off the overspray or what?

It was fun though, and took 3 days of trial and error and a lot of fumes.
 
Also, I just did the insides of my lights and think they look awesome. I'll post pics on my build thread once they're back on.
 
Anyone think you could plasti-dip the silver interior trim? How would it hold up?

The silver parts of my center console is all scratched up, the the silver trim on my door handle has discolored quite a bit.
 
I've been wanting to do this for a while and you inspired me to finally do it today, thanks!

I never thought about the running boards but I think I will do that and see if I like it, I love having the option of easily reversing this stuff!
 
Ok, my question to everyone whom has done this before.

1. How do I make sure it is not going to rub off, and washable (I want to treat this like normal paint).
2. I did my running boards and the plasti-dip seems to frail for everyday stepping any suggestions?
 
If your plasti-dipping any part that will be touched alot by hands or road debris then there's nothing that will keep it from coming off over time. I'd suggest using Duplicolor Bumper coating for plastic parts;my 12 year old flares are coming along nicely,then I'm doing the lower ffront valance and rear bumper trim.
 
Any suggestions on how to plasti-dip the running boards? Did you remove the little black plastic steps or just spray over them and then peel it off?
 
I figured since it was my first time with Plasti-Dip as well, I'd post some pics.

I'm so sad I didn't know about Plasti-Dip for the last 5 years!

Looks Great, just like i did. Your from Carolina eh? Im fron elizabeth city before i came to Colorado. If you do the grill let us know how u did with it and if yours lasted :). Im taking my up to denver today so im going to have a bug and wash test for my new plati-dip
