Plastic Cladding on 03's?

After several 4wheeling trips through the brush, the cladding on our '03 sport is looking rather scratched. The scratches are not into the plastic, but are rather visible.

The painted sections have been cared for... but any suggestions on what to use on the cladding to remove/smooth those light marks?

Along these same lines.....has anyone ever considered REMOVING the plastic totally? I was toying with the idea for a while but I'm not sure how much work it would entail or how much effort would be required to restore the body underneath once the plastic is gone...
