Are you saying don't tow with the HVAC fan speed at level 4? That doesn't make any since. All your doing is moving air slower or faster---? Am I missing something?

That gauge on the dash is pretty much an idiot gauge, I had a 96 4Runner running almost 240 and that gauge never moved. If you plan on doing any towing, I'd invest in a scangauge or something to monitor actual temps. It'll do Trans too, which is really important when towing.

You can also go down to your local auto parts store and rent a cooling system pressure tester, and a block leak tester to do a quick check.

Unfortunately only 99 and newer models can monitor transmission temperature, the older ones are missing the sensor.

To the OP, I know around here O'Reillys will let you rent for free a coolant pressure tester. It will show if there's a leak with your coolant system (but doesn't really tell you where unless you have a good ear), including head gasket issues. Very simple to use, you put the Toyota adapter on your radiator where the cap was, hook up the pump, pump PSI to requirement amount and then wait a few minutes to see if the pressure drops or if you hear bubbly/dripping noises.

When air is moving at a faster speed through the evaporator, the temperature in the evaporator will never reach the setting to turn off the compressor. As a result, the compressor will be on all the time and the AC condenser will be extremely hot, making the radiator coolant to heat up.

That would be true if there was insufficient cooling from our cooling systems. You'll burn your transmission oil 10 times before overheating your engine by A/C use in ''4'' instead of ''2'' fan speed while towing. Also, if using 4th speed instead of ''2'' would be enough to tip your engine into overheat, well you've got better problems and you should not be towing at all.
