Please Help: even with lift, 285s are rubbing

Hello,

I just purchased my first 4Runner last week, a '99 Limited. It has Rancho Quicklift in front (approx 1.5" lift over stock '99 height as far as I can tell) and 2" spacers in rear. From what I've read on this forum, it seems that a lot of guys are able to run 285s with this setup, but I'm getting a lot of rub, especially in the rear.

What's the best solution? firmer, tall springs out back like OME? more lift? cut stuff?

thanks,

The rear rub is probably the wheel well bolts, swap those out for some flat head bolts instead of the hex head

Was it rubbing in town or on the trail?

If it was rubbing town, then wow wait till you get on the trail, disconnect the front sway bar and try to get to full flex.

Are those 285s about a 33 or 35" tire? 285 is a not a direct measurement of diameter.

Even with my 31.5" 265x75x16 BFGs I still experienced minor rubbing and removed the wheel well bolts. BFAD's thread is a great source for fixing those bolts. I actually have a full 2.5" front and 3.5" in the rear of lift.

Now I can hit the trail at full flex with no rubbing. Rubbing when on the trail sucks big Time and it can ruin your chances of making it a certain trails - unless you love the smell of burning rubber on metal.

It rubs on the trail. 285/75/16 ~33"
