Please HELP!!!... SPARK PLUG/COIL PACK PROBLEM

I recently replaced the spark plugs on my 1995 toyota 4runner... I properly gauged them and checked the wires and everything on them. Well i noticed the car was running pretty bad and i dont know what was going on.. Ex. Started to come to a stop and the car would try to stall (sometimes actually would). Ran loud and rough and the gas mileage is horrible!!... So finally after 2 weeks of driving it that way i decided to go back under the hood to see what was going on... I realized that on the driver side where the coil pack sits there is a ground wire for the coil pack i assume and it was completely off!! My guess is it got ripped off during installation of spark plugs and just didnt notice it. So i regrounded it and it isnt running any better. Would be driving with it not grounded for 2 weeks mess up the plugs or even the coil itself?? What else might make my car run this way.?? Also the past 2 days when i drive it alot up hills and sitting at alot of lights the temp. Starts to rise not all the way in the red but it does rise. And then when i get back on flat ground or am going down hill it goes back to where it should be!! Does this seem like it is related to the coil/spark plug problem or could this be a problem all of its own??
