Please Inform your friends driving Jeep GC or Durango's

recall covers 2011-2014 Jeep Grand Cherokees and Dodge Durangos. In those SUVs, the wiring inside the vanity mirror and headliner could short circuit and catch fire.

The scary part is that Chrysler told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration they're aware of 62 fire incidents, including three injuries. NHTSA said it has now identified five reports of vehicle headliners catching fire. They opened their investigation last August and expanded it this year.

What's really funny(?)is the millions of Wrangler TJs sold with a design flaw that causes the dreaded 'Death Wobble'. Go on Jeep Forum or any of the other sites and there are literally thousands of pages devoted to curing 'Death Wobble'. Its worse if u lift ur Jeep. Thank God nobody does that...:faint2:

Because what intelligent person buys a Chrysler anymore? They haven't been good or reliable vehicles for probably 50 some years, they've gone all but bankrupt twice in the last decade and they're now owned by Fiat. Apparently even Fiat is having trouble turning Chrysler around... personally they need to dump every last Old Chrysler parts bin in the river and start with fresh parts to cure Chrysler of this garbage they've thrown on the streets.

I would be surprised if they didn't catch fire, death wobble, or have tons of cylinder head issues on their V6's and Hemi engines (one of our parts guys worked for a Chrysler dealership, they STOCK cylinder heads on the shelf because they go through them that quickly)... because then it wouldn't be a Chrysler product and it'd mean they actually started caring about improving quality and customer satisfaction.

*sigh* and I wanted to buy a Challenger SRT8 at one point, because I had hoped that they learned their lesson after they went almost bankrupt the first time...

The last good Chrysler was the original Challenger.

I have to comment on the dreaded death wobble for several reasons:

I owned a Jeep Commando in the late '70's and that thing would go for months without any wobble (replaced every suspension part associated with it) and then it would spontaneously wobble so hard it would break a tie rod end and did several times.

I rode skateboards into my 20's and there is nothing like flying down a hill and getting the death wobbles. Talk about being SOL!

I have been riding mtn bikes for almost 20 years now and still ride 5X/wk. A few years ago my front axle decided to snap while going down a long steep fast shale and dirt trail. I truly thought the death wobble was literally going to kill me. It shook so bad so quick it threw my off the bike...into a nice big cushion of weeds and leaves alongside the trail. It was the only good place to wreck along that whole decent.

It's not just Jeep's. I had a '95 Ram 4wd 1-ton dually, that would occasionally exhibit the 'death wobble'. That could get exciting, depending on when and where it happened.

Going through the front-end and making sure all of the angles were correct, and installing a stronger steering stabilizer, helped.

Of course I had to do that myself, the Dealership and their clueless "Tech's", were worthless.

If u look at the suspensions on both vehicles they're very similar. Coil springs with upper and lower control arms. I replaced my steering stabilizer with a heavy-duty unit. It helped a little although it still had a little shimmy around 50mph. If u hit a bump at that speed it would Death Wobble so bad you'd think the whole front end was coming apart! The quickest solution was to yank it into 4wd! I remember taking it to the dealership(Don-A-Vee, which raced Jeepspeed and is probably the most experienced/knowledgeable Jeep dealership in the nation), there were 3 other ppl there with the same problem. We spoke with a tech who basically said it was a design flaw, Chrysler knows it, and there really isn't a solution. :boom:

Yes, I know. The "Death Wobble" was aptly named. My only point in mentioning it is stating that it was not just the Jeep "brand", with the issue.

When I bought that truck, it was about the time I got out of the consumer car repair business, where I had been working as an ASE Master Tech. Since the truck was then still under warranty, I explained the problem to the Dealership Tech's. They were either unable or unwilling to attempt to fix the problem.

I made some alterations to the front end, in addition to the steering stabilizer, which eliminated the problem almost entirely.
