Pleased to see how clean the heads were at 265k miles

I bought my truck a few months ago from the original owner. The day after purchase I did the TB, WP and valve cover gaskets. The PO told me he did full synthetic oil changes every 3,000-4,000 miles.

Well I was very pleased to pull off the valve covers and see this. Way to go PO! I sent him this pic and thanked him for taking care of the truck. I'll keep up the tradition as well.

Wow, looks great. I never know why owners won't pay a little extra $$$ for synthetic oil. No varnish on any of those lobes. Here is to another 250,000 miles.

In comparison, here are my heads at 360,000kms. I've been using Pennzoil Platinum for the last few years but I suspect the previous owner used conventional. I am almost embarrased to post this!

PS, you can run a little bit of Marvel Mystery oil at the end of your change to get a little extra cleaning power.

Very nice! What's your OCI and oil?

I used a couple of oils but my guess to what helped get this head so clean was using Castrol Edge 0w-30, otherwise known as German Castrol. In draining it the oil was still good but black. It got dumped every six months at about 5000 miles or so. But this pic was taken back in 2011 when it was a daily driver.

Now it sees Maxlife Full Synthetic 10w-30 on a one year change interval anywhere between 3000 and 5000 miles. I need to replace all the valve stem seals; I have a catch can to collect the excess oil from the leaking exhaust seals on that head. I am up in the air whether to remove the heads or not for the job. It is small beans though in comparison to what you just accomplished.
