Plowing snow...?

Anyone use their Runner to plow snow? ..more specific just light residential . I know all about the strain on the suspension and tranny etc.... Pics of your setup if possible. Thanks !

I haven't done it but I'm considering it with some recent "junky" additions that I have. I know k2 snow plows has a pretty cheap kit and I would just be doing the driveway that's about a 1/4 mile long at my cabin. I've seen one for sale locally and the guy used it for just that and said it did its job. Can't ask for much more.

I know it's been done but I can't say that I've ever seen it in person. I wouldn't recommend it for any large jobs but like you said residential driveways and small roads with like a foot of snow might not be too bad. Google '4Runner Snow Plow' and you'll get plenty of pictures.

FWIW When we got +1' of snow before winter here I just engaged center diff and drove up and down my driveway, and my neighbor's; had fun and enabled my mom to drive her '99 Sienna in and out. Driveway roughly 50 yards long, took like 5 passes but was FUN

Personally think it's a bad idea for a solid vehicle like the 3rd gen T4R. I really think it is not designed for any commercial snow plowing.

You can plow a fair bit of snow with a 18hp lawn tractor (with wheel weights and chains), so I dont see why not.

Hell, if it's your driveway you can even use a 4 wheeler......maybe the OP needs to clarify his plans.

If I was going to do just my driveway and the cabin, I would do it with a T4R that was also my DD. Living in Northern MN though I would have a backup plan in the event we got snowmaggedon or huge packed drifts. I'd rather not trash something I need as transportation. I do see them on CL here with plows and when I have talked to the owners that seems to be their use, light residential.

I expect mine will become a plow truck when it retires from daily driving duty.
Many vehicle's suffer from brake and front end premature wear from the extra weight placed on the vehicle.

All that said, if /when it gets to a point where it is no longer practical for street use, a plow may find its way onto the front end.

I had pretty much ruled out combo street/plowing use however, with beefed up springs to handle the extra 500 lbs from the plow and harness, You may get away with it although I am sure Toyota would not approve.
