being a trailer puller I'd be in for this
one question however - you mentioned the "plug n play" option would be twice as much.
twice as much as what? as far as myself, I REALLY like the plug and play and would most likely pay accordingly to prevent modification/damage to OEM part.

So the item shown in the pictures above will be $35 shipped. That model will only be a direct plug and play for 2010-2013 models with navigation.
For other trucks not included in the ones above, for the same price you will just need to remove two wires from the factory harness (they slide in and out easily once you remove the retaining clip) and then insert those two wires into the new supplied plug.
The newer year trucks used a 28 pin plug which I am still trying to source from a reliable supplier. The estimates i have for the 28 pin plugs are 4 times as much as the 5 pin and they will also take much longer to make. If i were to make this solution i would expect the price to be more than double.
I will have a tutorial up this evening showing how to remove the pins and insert them into the new plug.

Well if you really get going on this, I'd love one (or a set) that will acommodate a second switch-able feed (front camera). So one switch to put it into cam mode and another to switch feeds

This is great everyone! Hopefully I can help you all in a timely fashion. I will have another update posted this evening with more details regarding the later model dongles. 2010 with Nav (with or without JBL)
2011 with Nav (with or without JBL)
2012 with Nav and JBL
2013 with Nav and JBL
I am still waiting on parts for the other models as well as the RCA input for all models. I do not want to offer it up until i have tested it all. Please reach out on the website if you have any questions. I know the current dongle will also work on a large variety of other Toyota models and i am trying to figure out which ones. Once i have that information it will be on my site.
