Plush Mid Travel suspension questions

Hi All,

Well after a few years away, I find myself missing my old V8 T4R.

I sold my 2004 v8 with a 2.5/1.5 DS lift a few years back for a great car, a 2012 VW GLI. I loved the GLI but needed a truck, so I sadly sold it and bought my current vehicle, a 2011 Tacoma TRD Sport.

The truck is a Double Cab Short box with a 6 Speed tranny, OME lift, Canopy, 32's ect.

Recently I have taken the truck on some longer camping trips and have started to dislike the underpowered engine (4.0L is nothing compared to the V8) and the 6 speed tranny.

Which makes me want to get another 4Runner, specifically a 2006-2009 V8 Limited.

In my not so old age (28) I have grown to like a soft suspension more than the hardness of a truck, so I was wondering:

Who makes a good lift spring/coil that is nearly as soft as the stock setup. My old V8 was a base model (no Xreas) and I thought it road great with the DS lift.

I see a few options.

OME - Stiff
Icon - Medium
Toytec Superflex - Softer

and one I haven't seen before the All Pro 3.5".

I do wheel my trucks, and love lots of rear wheel travel, and front wheel travel.

I think the OME is a little to stiff so it is out.

How do the Toytec's ride vs the AP? Is the 3.5" overkill? I would only be lifting the front 3", so do the 3.5's make the truck have to much rake?

So far I am leaning toward the:

Radflo extended travel Kit 2.0 with 600# springs
Radflo rear shocks
and adding the LR UCA's.

I remember everyone loving the Radflo setup when I had my DS lift, but I believe it was valved by overland wearhouse who are out of business if memory serves? Is this still a great purchase for retaining stocklike ride?

I will be trying to clear 275/70/17's (or 18" varienty) or a skinny 255/75/17.

I would encourage you to also look at the Fox AllPro adjustable setup.

I checked out all the fox stuff on allpro's website, seems to be a great price. $1350 for a basic full kit is right there with the Radflo or Toytec ultimate.

Do you have any info on the fox setups? 5 google searches and 2 searches on here(I think it's broken) has yeilded no info on fox setups on the 4th.

Not many folks here run Fox, but the ones who do seem very pleased. That's probably why you're not finding much. I personally would not suggest Radflo, I've not had the best experience with them. Read this thread, specifically page two. There are more details there on the specific issues.

I think maybe Toytec Ultimate or Icon Stage 1.

Radflo might be an ok choice as well but I've been put off by recent reviews of the Radflos making a lot of clunking noises.

I'm pretty similar to you as far as preferences, I'm thinking about going with Icon stage 1 or the extended travel version one of these days, once I can afford to drop that kind of cash on my 4Runner.

Let me know what specific questions you might have. There are not a lot of folks running Fox. Just not popular like other brands.

I have the Fox 2.0 series with separate resivior and 8 way adjustable compression. In the front I am running a 650# spring and in the rear the OME 895 spring. I would have used the AllPro spring but I wanted a high load capacity. The AllPro spring is about 15% stiffer than stock, the OME is 40% stiffer. AllPro offers a 2" and 3.5" rear spring option.

I went Fox for a few reasons. But most of all I had Fox on my last truck and they handled everything the terrain could dish out. I don't have any experience with the IPF series stuff. I did run OME on this truck and they were good, but the ride quality just wasn't as plush as my current setup. I like having the separate resi as I don't worry about overheating them in the desert on washboard and woops. The adjustable compression is nice to as I change it depending in the use of the vehicle.

If AllPro doesn't list the compression adjustable fronts they can be added by Fox. It is about $175 a shock to add the adjustment. So the fronts will be ~$1750 and the rears about $830 with springs.
