How about putting them on the top right of the homepage? There is nothing more irritating that having to scroll all the way to the bottom of the webpage.

I don't know about you, but sometimes I will competely miss the fact that I have new PMs since its displayed in 0.0001 font at the bottom of the page.

In the meantime, go to your profile and set up to have a pop-up message show when you log in, or to send you an e-mail when you receive a PM.

Click the button marked "User CP" then "Edit Options" -- the changes are in the second section.

X2 about the pop-up window.

Also, just click "User CP" when you log on, and it will show you any PM's if you have any. Less effort than scrolling down to the bottom.
