Of the 8 vehicles my family and I have owned that have been over a 100k and 2 of them over 200k, only 1 has ever burned any noticeable amount of oil and that's my Z and even then it's not burning it per say, it's a crappy PCV setup and high rpm downshifting that's sucking it through the intake which causes it to get burned but it's not burning because the rings are shot or the engine is worn out. Otherwise none of our vehicles have ever lost oil between changes.

I have 2 3rd gen 4runners and a 04 tacoma TRD 4x4, all 3.4L and none of them burn or leak a drop of oil. That's why i love my Toyota's!

Secondly, there are many engine designs out there that burn oil at a noticeable rate after 150K or 200K miles. A small amount down isn't unusual with other engines on the road in America.

What this poll and all the other evidence shows is that the 3.4 V6 is not one of those engines. It really shouldn't be burning any noticeable amount of oil in between oil changes.

With all due Respect, water can join oil in an engine. This depends on the # and length of trips especially in cold weather. If enough of these types of trips are enjoyed the engine's oil level will increase as the moisture in the air does not have ample time to vaporize off with heat.

But yeah they're great engines and no matter what anyone says, they burn Some amount of oil. Perhaps its Less than anything else in the world or hardly noticiable but we all know the oil between the metal parts is what prevents wear and hence some of it will spill past the rings, tiny tiny amounts that in my engine's case adds up to about 16 ozs over 5000 miles (my usual change interval).

Again with all due respect, we all Love the same engine! Lets off road and Enjoy. :cowboy:
 
Every 5000m im about 1/4th down on dip stick. Some of that is the light leak at rear main seal, valve covers and what ever it burns.

Most of the water moisture is burnt off even in very short trips. Just warming the vehicle in driveway is enough to remove this water moisture.

Does your engine burn oil? : No - However for the first time I noticed I was a about 1/2 quart low the other day. I also think i have a small leak, so this could explain it.

Not that I know of. No smoke from exhaust, no burning oil smells. Every 5,000 miles between oil changes, I will have periodically topped off the oil with about a total of 3/4th a quart...and I believe this to be due to the leaking valve covers and RMS.

2002 Camry - OMG 1 qt every fill up - Engine finally died.

Not to open up a new thread but I got 340k+ miles and no oil burning. Oil is clean brown. Thought I got it with 146k miles but turns out he rolled back the odo and carfax said last checkup was at 334k miles. Not really max except the fact I can’t make profit now. Either the rolled it back or engine was swapped, we will never know. Either way burns no oil or any leaks whatsoever. Best car I’ve owned for off-roading. I’ve owned the Xj, and 06 Tj and 4runner definitely has to be most reliable. The Tj was a lot more comfortable, literally went over bumps like clouds.
 
Mine has never burned any oil which is nice for having 228k. The only time I had to top off was the time when I had an oil leak coming from the drain bolt :/
 
239K and it doesn't use enough between 5K oil changes to ever need to add oil. Starts off at the top, gets a bit closer to the lower line on the dipstick, but never gets there.

I have replaced the valve cover gaskets, but even when those were seeping, that wasn't enough of a leak to be a problem.
