So I recently won a court case against my previous loser live-in-landlord, and I have about $400 coming my way. As a reward for dealing with his BS, I've decided to treat myself to a 4Runner gift, but am not sure what...

I know you got 'em, so let's hear some opinions!


EDIT: Radiator been boughten. Sliders and body lift are no longer mutually exclusive...

1) Wheel Spacers (~$200)
2) Wheels with less backspacing (probably just go cheap/black steelies, ~$300)
3) Sliders ($170; 4x Innovations)
4) 1" body lift ($120; Toytec)
5) New Radiator ($130) BORING :wink2:
6) Some combination of the above (w/your comments of course)
7) Other (w/your comments of course)

i went with sliders as they are the most expensive, better to buy the bigger ticket items when you have cash, and just pick up a body lift or rad when you got an extra $80~100 laying around ...much easier to comer up with that than the $350 for sliders.
 
I would take care of the maintenance things like that rad. If you whip is broke them $350 rock sliders will look good just seating there and if you need a rad fix it first.. Just my way of thinking it your cash.
 
I like the input, thanks guys! I'm feeling somewhat obliged to do the radiator now, almost as if I'll get jinxed if I don't...

I've see a decent amount of debate on the topic, but if I go sliders, I am leaning towards the HREW ones - I don't do enough hard-core stuff to make the price difference worth while. I'll also need to factor in the welding expense on that one too - I'd love to do it myself, but I haven't welded in 10+ years and don't have the resources to do so.

Anyone have a recommendation as to where I should order a Koyo radiator?

The ads on Ebay et. al. are always a little suspect (might not be an actual Koyo or it has weird specs, like "fits 96-00 3.4L and 00-02 2.7L")
 
Nothin yet, but it has 185k miles on it and I'd rather replace it before it poos the bed and takes my tranny out with it.
 
Just install an external trans cooler......... That way your trans is safe. I think they're pretty cheap, right? I have manual so I've never looked into.
 
Budget for the radiator replacement should really be:

$150 Koyo P1998 Radiator, shipped, plus sales tax (get someone local to pricematch that)
$32 Replacement coolant hoses
$10 Replacement radiator hose (8')
$12 Replacement clamps (4x coolant, 4x radiator)
$7 1 quart ATF (assuming you are not flushing the tranny)
$31 1 gallon Red Gold (AKA Toyota Long Life coolant)
$5 3 gallons of distilled water - two to do a flush one one more to mix with the coolant

Good thoughts Tee-bone. My hoses are still in really good shape so I'll be leaving them and the clamps and I already have the coolant. I will need to add some ATF though and I may be doing the T-stat while I've got the block drained.


Edit: Radiator looks to be about $110 from Amazon, which is a TYC and rumored to be mfg'd by Koyo... can always return it if not.

Has anybody said snorkel yet? Haha just kidding! I would go for a new radiator first things first, then think about getting sliders. You wouldn't be able to enjoy new sliders with a pink milkshake!
