My 02' ltd with just over 180k. My 98 that I sold to my dad a mid last year just clicked over 282k. These things are great! Always had yotas in my family and always will.

I think the old adage about 'cheap, fast and reliable — pick only two', is appropriate with this engine. I'm guessing the designers of the 5vz engine picked cheap and reliable instead of fast and whatever. I don't mean cheap as is "cheaply made" but more as in simple no BS solid construction — not some fancy-pants engine with unproven engineering.

If I recall, these engines were built for industrial use initially, so simple and reliable were probably the goal all along. As you all know, "fast" is not a word anyone associates with these engines.

I forget where, but I think I read that the 5vz-fe was designed by Hino, Toyota's Big Rig brand. So yeah, definitely overbuilt for reliability.

304,000 miles. Just recently picked this up, and at first my intentions were to just replace the motor and start with something fresh, but after driving this for a couple of weeks it's very obvious this motor has a lot of life left in it. It doesn't leak, smoke, burn or use oil. It's my daily driver and I'm going to squeeze every last mile I can out of it, which I believe will be a lot. 1996 SR5
