Geez. All these danger to manifold drivers. I rarely pass 2000rpm

Way too much...but the Borla S-Type and high flow cat I put on is to blame.

It's just too good to resist

I still manage to get 15-15.5 mpg which is pretty good for being under geared on 35s.

Yeah, mine seems to have dead-zone around 2700-3500 rpm. It feels like it really takes off at 3500. I am in the same boat as you, OP. I had to relearn how to drive, I mostly just cruise in this truck. I average between 18 and 19 mpg with a lift and 33s, and plenty of extra weight hauling around. I have a souped up twin turbo F150 (wife's DD) and an older Big Block F250 that I alternate driving with the 4Runner. If I am in a hurry or have a need for speed, I take one of the Fords. It is funny (read: disappointing) to hop in the 4Runner after the F250, since the 460 won't go over 4500 RPM, and pulls like a freight train off idle.

Long story short: This engine ain't winning any contests of speed, but that's ok, Just roll down your back window and enjoy the ride.

I enjoy just cruising around. Especially taking a ride down to the beach.

This is what I notice EVERYTIME I TAKE OF FROM A LIGHT! Mine is a 5 speed. And first gear is kinda quick. But when You go to 2nd there's a little pause between the gears. So I always take a peak at the rear view mirror. And 99% of the time , the new more modern cars will like speed up and quickly slow down. Because I'm going through gears. Not to mention in NJ. Everyone is a Evel Knievel driver.

I'm a 5 speed so I see 3k+ everyday. Also heel toe is a skill of addiction. Having nice exhaust only encouraged me more. I average 18.5 MPG year after year.

The late 460 was a great engine. More tq and a lower/stronger powerband than its replacement the 6.8 V10 (2v and 3v versions)

Loved ours.
I do like the low end tq of the 3.4. It seems very stout during city driving.
The highway not so much

I rarely get above 3k. I do it when passing or getting on the interstate. I don't do it often though because my truck has 300k and it likes the retired slow life:biggrin2:

In my 2000 5 speed though, it begs to be over 3k every time you drive it.

I voted always. Simply because mine is likely 1k lb's over factory and a pig... in Colorado

I hit 3k just to merge into traffic. If I didn't I'd be slowing everyone down.

I try not to hit 3k but usually, daily, I can't avoid it.

Just drove 200 miles today, the majority being highway with some hills. Almost never hit the 3k RPM, even while driving mostly over 70 mph.
