Just had my xreas replaced under warranty on my 14 Limited. Extended warranty paid $3300 for replacement and I got the dealer to install a toytec level lift at the same time. Also got free loaner car paid by warranty while work was done.

Bought my TRDOR new July 2nd 2017. I have 54k on it now. I went with the 100k warranty.

I said to the guy " If I needed a 100k warranty I would not buy a Toyota." They ended up giving me the extended warranty cheap enough I went ahead and got it for piece of mind.

Fast forward to 52k miles later. I'm under my 4R removing some skids and I see a bunch of oil coming from between the trans and engine block. Rear main seal went bad and was covered under the factory 60k drive train warranty.

Now I am glad I got the 100k just in case something else happens to my trusty reliable Toyota.

I normally do not buy extended warranties. I drive 30k a year for work and plan to keep 4Runner in the family so the discounted Toyota Platinum warranty I purchased through member on this site made sense. 5yr 125k on 2015 LTD 4WD.

65k Replaced Idler pulley #1 & #2, tensioner assembly and belt. $650

Dropped off at dealer today with 119k. Replacing XREAS. Leak at timing chain cover so Replacing gasket and water pump. Do not have final paperwork yet but I am sure it would have been expensive without warranty.

I don’t enjoy working on my 4R and depend on it for long trips at odd hours. I would recommend discounted Toyota Platinum Warranty to anyone. I would not pay dealer FULL price.

Also Toyota has been great each time the claim was submitted by dealer. No pushback or denial.

I bought Toyota extended warranties for my FJ Cruiser and then my 2015 4Runner. The FJ Cruiser needed new front brake calipers and one new front wheel bearing. The charge for all that would have been over 2000 at Toyota, if not more. So it worked out there.
The 4Runner needed a new power door lock actuator and a new heater fan motor. I don’t think that would have cost that much. I probably would have bought discounted parts and done it myself.
So it’s a difficult call. It depends how long you’re going to keep your vehicle I suppose.
Generally, what fails on these vehicles is the electrical parts made by oem suppliers.

I got the 8 year/125,000 mile Toyota Care when I bought my 2015 TRD Pro.

In my view, cheap insurance . All it takes is a blown AC compressor , or differential and it has paid for itself. Otherwise, nice peace of mind on a vehicle having a MSRP of about 45K.

Already covered a $450 replacement of the driver door auto lock mechanism.

YMMV. Also keep vehicles at least 8 years.

How does Toyota manufacture warranty compare to extended warranty through dealership. Had the chance to get manufacturers warranty but dealership gave me a deal. Saved $2500 on 10 yr 125k.
Did some research. Seems pretty comparable. Not sure on specific parts though.

Everyone has to make there own decision. I transfer my platinum warranty from my 17 Pro to my 2020 Pro. 10yr. 100,000 miles. Piece of mind. I never take extended warranty on my Toyota’s. But keeping my AG for a long time.

2021 Advice?

Hoping to get some present day feedback on this!

Just purchased a 2020 ORP (certified pr-owned from Toyota) and got upsold on the extended warranty which now goes for $2,854 with extended coverage until 1/2029 or 175K miles, which ever comes first: Certified Used Toyota Vehicles | Pre-Owned Cars, Trucks, SUVs & Hybrids

Opted in for the 0% financing and can opt out at any time. So the question is, is it worth it in 2021? My 2020 is pretty young 17K miles (+ still ~1 year left of original warranty) and knowing Toyota's reliability it seems like this is likely not worth it. Not planning major mods but do want to push it a bit offroading.

At this point I can fully pull out so just wondering if this is something I really need down the line, on the off chance any electrical failures... and newer models certainly have more bells and whistles than before, so hoping y'all can advise!

The Toyota Extra Care Platinum plan is transferable to a new car?? I must have missed this in the brochure. Is this correct?

I bought it for my ‘13 SR5 with 50k at the time because I just got out of a nightmare with an ‘04 explorer so I was very cautious. Used it on the drivers door lock going bad which for the dealer was a $600 job or something. Then just bought the wife a ‘19 RAV4 and thought about all the electronics and said yeah I think I better.

The Toyota extended warranty is transferrable to a new owner if you sell the vehicle. Also, if you get rid of your vehicle and get something new before the warranty is expired, you can get a pro-rated return if you cancel it. I do not believe you can transfer it to another vehicle.

I work with these every day. I have worked for a Toyota dealership for almost 20 years. I can say that the Toyota extended plan is hands down the best extended warranty I have ever worked with. It is very close to the original 3/36 comprehensive warranty from the factory. It will not cover wear items like brakes, interior trim or door seals, but it will cover nearly everything else and usually has a zero deductible. They can be pricey and I will agree that sometimes they go unused. Its just like buying an insurance plan, sometimes it pays off and other times it doesnt. Its really personal preference but they are very nice when you have a major part failure like KDSS, Transfer case actuator, rear diff, or even a radio. Radio's with nav screens are thousands of dollars. I usually recommend aftermarket if one fails and no ext warr.

Also, when you are considering an extended warranty, haggle! Dealers do have wiggle room on them and if you really want one, ask them for a better price. We also sell an alternative that is a great company but cheaper price point and it doesn't cover quite as much but is a good option for non-Toyota vehicles.

Beware of off-brand extended warranties though! Never buy over phone or thru a mail service. I have horror stories of companies that pay only a portion of the labor, have max limits, wont use OEM parts etc....I would alwasy recommend from a dealer or sometimes there are good ones from a local credit union. Just make sure you ask questions! Deductible, limits, labor rates, etc.

Again, its all personal preference but I will say if you own a Toyota, get the Toyota extended warranty and make sure you buy before the 3/36 expires or you will get kicked into a different category and options become less desireable for the time and mileage available. They are also usually way more expensive.

Yes you can transfer your extended warranty to your new Toyota. Here is some more info incase you did not know. I cancelled my extended warranty on my 2020 AG Pro. Instead of going into a long explanation I’m saving money by doing this. Because I’m waiting for my Tundra Pro to come in. It won’t be here till the end of April. Then I don’t know if I will take a extended warranty. You don’t need to take one right away. You can get one anytime or at any Toyota dealer after you have the truck. But they say you get a better price if you do it soon as you buy your new vehicle.

There's a lot to unpack here. 0% financing on the warranty? Or overall deal? And if the latter, how in the world did you pul. that off on a CPO?? Also, how did you get a 160k warranty??

All that aside, if you're covered for that long, that warranty will certainly pay for itself. Differentials, engine issues, exhaust etc. As reliable as our 4Runners are, there are plenty of things that can happen that are unexpected. For example, my Mom had a Lexus that had the cats go bad around 100k - it was covered under her warranty and I believe I remember a $3k+ invoice. $0 deductible.

Is it rare that something major goes wrong with these vehicles? Absolutely. But it's better to have and not need, then to need and not have. I bought a 7yr/84k VSA when I bought my 2017 and I'm covered til about 130k miles. I couldn't sign the papers fast enough once i found out that they changed coverage from in-service date to purchase date.

Worth it, IMO. Even just for peace of mind.
