I'm an idiot. I should have noticed the Hilux in your name! All makes sense now. Thought at first maybe you were drinking some funny Koolaid putting 15-40 diesel oil in your 3.4L.

I use Amsoil high performance synthetic, since I'm supercharged and I'm lazy, meaning I want really long oil intervals. I hate getting that silly filter out, but at least I don't have to remove the tire like my wife's car.
Pennzoil platinum or ultra platinum. It can be had at Wal-Mart for a good price. OEM V8 filter. It has done wonderfully for the 6 cars we use it in. It even cleaned the bejabers out of my sludge monkey. I have a previous thread with the before and after pictures in it. I'm suprised it isn't more popular.

Mobil 1 high mileage 5w30 full synthetic with toyota oil filter on my 3rzfe usually totals around $30.

Ultra can be hard to find in stores and even then it is $$$. Regardless it is a fine oil, and a great cleaning one at that.
My sis's 5th gen receives Platinum courtesy of my BIL every 7500 miles.

Castro edge full synthetic 5w-30 for the 5vzfe, recently on the 22RE, and planning the same for my 7mge. Made a huge difference as far as engine noise on the 22RE with around 315000 on the clock.

I worked at an auto parts store back in the 80s when the big brands were Quaker State (for the senior crowd and those that never changed their oil), Pennzoil (which I didn't like because it apparently used the same base as QS), Havoline (which smelled really bad if it leaked onto the exhaust), Kendall, Valvoline, etc. This was before synthetics were real common and at less than a dollar a quart you could change your oil multiple times. I used Kendall GT 30W and 40W depending on seasons in my '69 Z/28.
However, at that time I became a big fan of Castrol GTX 20W50 and ran that in most of my cars. Then, as I started driving better cars it was a natural progression to use Castrol Syntec... especially the 0W30 and 0W40 German versions. Later, I found out the Mobil 1 tested very well. Now I lean toward the Castrol full synthetic but have no problems using Mobil 1 if cheaper.
However, at that time I became a big fan of Castrol GTX 20W50 and ran that in most of my cars. Then, as I started driving better cars it was a natural progression to use Castrol Syntec... especially the 0W30 and 0W40 German versions. Later, I found out the Mobil 1 tested very well. Now I lean toward the Castrol full synthetic but have no problems using Mobil 1 if cheaper.

I use whatever synthetic is on sale. Right now that is Royal Purple.
The fact of the matter is anything you read on a forum like this regarding oil quality is near useless. No one here has the ability to conduct the kind if controlled testing it would take to differentiate one modern SAE spec oil from another, especially with a rotating assembly that's known to last 300k miles with minimal attention.
I stick to reputable brands and don't worry to much about it. :hungry:
