So I have a 96 auto,3.4L 4X4 4runner limited with 176,000. The factory(yes factory) muffler just gone bad. I had own this suv since 10,000 miles and it served me well. But due to the F'up economy, I have been laid off for about 6 months already. I had patched the muffler 2 times and the patch keeps on falling off. It' loud and annoying. Every penny counts for me since I have a family and mortgage to pay. My check form the state is just enough to pay my bills and mortgage with not a penny to spare. So here is my question......

My friend had total his 94 V6 3.0 4runner. He had cut off his muffler for me since he know my conditions. The inlet for his muffler is (I think) 1.75 inches. My 4runner is 2.25 inches. I am planning to have a shop expand the pipe and weld my friend's muffler on. Will this do any damages to my 4runner?
All I want is peace and quiet but can't afford the OEM muffler.
OEM was going to cost $250 parts and labor. My friend's muffler is free and shop charge $30 for labor.

Will I be safe??

Thanks Inshore for your kind offer but I am away far from you.
I'm in Milwaukee Wisconsin.
(this is my friends, log in sorry)

It is definitely louder than the stock muffler, from the sound of it you want a quiet ride, not the aftermarket "throaty" sound some people desire. If this is the case I would not recommend this muffler.
