Poor quality or what....?

So I tied this strap to my roof rack to test out the quality before strapping some items down. I drove for about 120 miles, most of way above 65, and this is what the strap looked like. I’m going to assume just poor quality? Or is it normal to lose color like this? I can’t tell if coming apart or just losing color from being pressed on the bar.

My vote is poor quality. The bit of visible wear after 2ish hour drive is odd without knowing if that part of the strap was rubbing or just tension only.

This would be rubbing. There was residue on the bar. The mark is exactly where the bar was. They were cheap, don’t get me wrong. But maybe I was expecting a little more life span than this!

What roof rack? It could be that the surface was rough which caused the fraying.

I have straps that look like that.
I've used them for years and years and years.

Who cares what it looks like, as long as it holds the load down.

Because the looks may reflect the strap coming apart? If you’re driving behind me and my items hit your car you’re gonna cry about it and get a lawyer.

I would say how straps look after using them is very relevant.

+1 for poor quality

ive been trailering, strapping my race bikes to my carry trailer for 20 years with the same uber expensive straps, and they have never looked any different than what they do now. never loosing color, never shearing or showing the tearing that you have shown.

i say, hit your local lowes or truck/trailer store and buy some better ones.

You already know it's from rubbing or chafing.
Just a heads up, on really good straps, the ones I bought for tying down vehicles to a car trailer. They come with kevlar sleeves around the individual straps that slide over the part that will rub the strap.

Its abrasion And its normal for tools that get used.

Even high quality expensive straps get abrasion on them if used.

Get on with life.
