Possible 5 speed swap input appreciated

Yeah - check out the pedal first. Not sure on the pilot bearing. If it were that, then you got a dud right out of the box. Seems unlikely but I guess possible. I would think there would be some noise associated with a failed pilot bearing as well though. At least I think I have read that.

I fiddled with the peddle a little tonight. Haven't been able to really dig into it because I can't figure out this oil leak. It's coming right from the filter o-ring. The filter is on square and tight! But I just can't figure it out. As soon as I turn it on, it's like a stream of oil coming down from the filter.

So it is complete!

I got the oil figured out. it was a dud filter with a bad threading. And the clutch is all figured out. The smoke was actually coming from some residual oil from the exhaust manifolds.

I got the coolant burped, I think and got to drive it around for a good half hour. This thing is awesome. :p

I've got power finally! And once I got used to driving the standard again it was so much fun. I love driving this thing around so much.

Will get you some pictures tomorrow.

Just have one question still. Only thing left is to wire the clutch start cancel switch into it. Swimmer boys got a good post about it but my switch has a 4th wire on the pigtail where as his only has 3. Is it a ground, or maybe a 12 volt for the light?

And TheDurk the 4wd and and e locker both worked great and as they should. I'll make a detailed post about how I wired that soon, but in lament terms. I bypassed the 2-4 selector switch out of the circuit, wired the j shifts 4 hi switch in place of the push buttons 4wd switch, and plugged in the 4 low switch, as it was and identical plug and wire colors even.

Well. I can't help you out with the wiring as I have not done mine yet, but I can help you out with that 4-wire switch you have.

I have a 3-wire switch that I picked up before I knew the 1998 used a 4-wire switch. If you have the connector to go with the switch, I would be happy to swap switches with you.

Let me know what you think, and maybe we can both get that clutch cancel switch figured out. It is going on 4 years for me now I think...

Yeah, it needs 12V+, not just for the light, but to operate the internal circuitry.

Wire as follows.

T1--Black wire--Taps into black wire between starter line from key switch and the clutch switch.
T3--Black/white--other end of clutch switch
T5--White/Black--Ground
T7--Black/Yellow from 10A GAUGE fuse.

Congratulations on a job well done.

Thank you so much man. Youve been a huge help and continue to be. I owe you big time man.

How is your 5spd working? Did you end up using the auto ECM?

Yeah its working great so far. It's a blast to drive and I'm already back up to 18 mpg.

Ended up using the harness and ecu from the automatic. Wasn't too bad to wire it up actually.

Only problem I've had is one clamp I missed on the heater line. Hissed a little coolant as I got out of the truck one day though so it was super easy to spot.

All in all I love it. :p

Pretty sure I figured out why my cruise isn't working. Which I coincidentally found out this afternoon. Looking at my old pedal, the release switch, so brake light switch as the manual calls it, has four wires, where as the 5 speed pedal only has two pins.

Looking at the cruise control wiring im Pretty sure that switch is involved, controlling the feature where hitting your brakes kills the cruise.

I've driven 2, 2.7L 5spds and they were fun to drive! I really wish I had a 5 spd.... maybe its next years' project.....

Where are you guys splicing your wires in at for the clutch depress and clutch all the way up? Straight from the computer or down at where it plugs into the transmission?

I ran my clutch depress from the junction next to the ecu where the wires to the transmission run into the engine wiring harness. Use the park /neutral wire

I believe I cut mine from the transmission plug and ran them up to the cab. May be some additional details in my swap thread if you have not already checked there. My memory after six years might not be the best...

There's really really good info on my build thread. For repining auto harness and installing clutch cancel button.

However I do not have info on reverse lights or cruise control
