Possible bent muffler 2003 V8

Hi everyone. Today I drove over a small concrete parking block about 6 to 7 inches in height.

On the way up it was ok but on the way down the front end slammed onto the block hitting the muffler first. (Piece of shit shocks) The part of the muffler that runs across the front end. It bent the muffler slightly and I think the muffler also contacted the black transmission cover or whatever it is because it appears a bit bent. It could be my imagination though. The muffler seems very close to the front propeller shaft as well.

It's the V8 engine.

I took a few photos and hopefully someone can tell me (by comparing it to their 4Runner) if it looks normal and if there is enough clearance between the muffler and the black transmission cover. (I think its the transmission)

Looks like nothing. Anytime I've ever had an issue with exhaust you can either smell it or hear it.

If the exhaust is rubbing against any metal, you will easily hear a metal on metal tinny rattle, usually when idling through parking lots or stopped at drive-thrus for example.

I think you're all good man. As long as you didn't smoosh a catalytic converter, you shouldn't hear a noise difference.

Everything else on the rig okay? looks like a hard hit.

Thanks, yes I think so. I was going quite slow but yes quite and impact over a small area. What a stupid thing to do in hindsight. But these new KYB shocks are very mushy. I think I should have just went for Bilsteins.

Is that cross pipe not supposed to be ovalled??? I have an 05 v8 and the oval cross pipe sits a touch lower than the cross member

As for your exhaust, I wouldn't have even gotten out of the truck to inspect it [emoji23]. You should see the fist size dents in my OE fuel tank 'armor' from wheeling

Yeah and stop mall crawling parking curbs and get under your truck more often to learn what some of those "thingy's" are....lol.

Just checked another v8 4Runner in the neighbourhood.

It has about 2.5 inches of clearance between the muffler and the drive shaft / transmission pan compared to mine which is now 1 inch of clearance and the pipe should be circular not oval. My muffler definitely dented the transmission pan. Also I checked the muffler brackets and it shows that the whole muffler system moved backwards about an inch and in a couple places the muffler/resonator is in direct contact with the heat shield. So somehow the muffler system did get lodged up a couple inches and backwards. . Hopefully it didn't mess up the headers/manifold and that the muffler pressed against the heat shield won't be dangerous. Should I bother taking it to a muffler shop to get fixed or just leave it and call it a day?

Who would have thought driving over a simple parking block would have f'd everything up. Lesson learned

And now to complete this wonderful situation there is a clicking noise when starting the 4runner in the morning for a few minutes till the engine warms up. Exhaust manifold time! $$$$$$$$
