Possible future trade in... (2016)

Haters going to hate but I like it ALOT. Whats will be interesting is if Toyota brings a Diesel option to the midsize tacoma for 2016. That's strong competition in my opinion. Others will disagree but It will take a nice chunk out of Toyotas market for its mid-size. @ IE pretend you didn't read this :)

Flame away...

It's definitely a good looking truck! The interior looks quite boring, but that may change. I would not be the first inline for the diesel though. Give it a few years and let them work out the kinks.

Buying that truck would be just like going to McDonalds for lunch when you are starving.

That Bigmac and fries taste soooo good, but as soon as you're done you realize you just ate crap, you feel like crap, and you gotta take a crap.

That's just my dollar (menu's) worth.:drum:

I'll admit, I like it. I'm also looking forward to see the new Ford. I hear it's a new "F100", from a reliable source. Chevy and Ford are getting the jump before the new Tacoma is released.

I agree with the console and yes the dollar menu joker. Im at this weird stage and phase in life where I want something basic, truck based and noisy. Im leaning towards a mid size truck and this could quite easily be the ticket for ME.

I understand Ollie. Go ahead and get one! You are young still and everyone needs to buy a vehicle like this at least once.

Despite it being a GM product, I think they did a good job on the redesign. I think the mid size truck market needs a kick in the pants and this helps. The fact they have committed to a diesel is awesome. I hope the redesigned Tacoma for 2015 steps it up. But in the meantime, we have to give props to Chevy for bringing it.

Everything I hear says that the Tacoma is coming out next fall as a full redesign. I doubt Ford has anything planned for mid sizers with a new F150 coming out next fall.

I couldn't agree more. I've said for years (after owning a handful of VW TDIs) that if someone comes out with a reasonably priced NEW mid-size truck with a diesel, I'd buy one new...

I was let down when the Nissan/Cummins titan plan got canned. I'd LOVE a tacoma in a diesel... We'll see what this Chevy does to shake down the midsize market and hopefully bring out some competition from everyone else.

In the meantime, I'll sit around anticipating release of the 2015 grand wagoneer. :hungry:

There are so many good midsize trucks out there, the US just doesn't see any of them. Are they really considering selling that in the US, with a diesel none the less? Maybe that will revive the midsize truck segment in the US.

A modern midsize truck with a reasonable sized diesel engine...what a concept!

Price of full size trucks (highly incentivized) and similar EPA ratings (that don't seem to bear out in the real world) is what has generally killed the midsize market. We Americans feel that a 3/4 scale truck should cost 3/4 as much money. For a few thousand more, we'd rather have a lesser optioned full size.

But if they actually gave us the good "Global Market" midsized trucks at some point, we would have realized it makes since to own one over a fullsize in certain situations.

Since all we got was junk, with few options, of course nobody would buy one over a fullsize that was a few thousand more. Not everyone wants/needs a giant fullsize.

I am sure plenty of people would have bought the current Gen Global Ranger with a 2.2L diesel and 6 speed manual that gets 30mpg+, or one with the 3.6L diesel that has 470 Torques, and 28mpg, Over the 20mpg F150 Ecoboost. The problem is our only option was the US spec ranger that hasn't changed since the 90s, and has a 18mpg v6 in it.

What the US Gets:

Specs:
-2.3L I4 DOHC 16-valve
143 hp @ 5250 rpm
154 ft-lbs. @ 3750 rpm

-4.0L SOHC V6 (12-valve..LOL)
207 hp @ 5250 rpm
238 ft-lbs. @ 3000 rpm
15/19 mpg

What the rest of the world gets:

Specs:
-2.5L Duratec (L5-VE) petrol engine (122 kW & 226Nm) mated with a 5-speed manual transmission

-2.2L Duratorq TDCi ("PUMA" ZSD-422) diesel engine (88 kW & 285Nm; 92 kW & 330Nm or 110 kW & 375Nm) consumes as little as 7.6 L/100 km[9] (37.2 mpg-imp or 30.9 mpg-US) with choices of 6-speed manual or automatic transmission

-3.2L Duratorq TDCi ("PUMA" P5AT) diesel engine (147 kW & 470 Nm) at 8.4 L/100 km[9] (33.6 mpg-imp or 28.0 mpg-US) with choices of 6-speed manual or automatic transmission

Man.....I don't want a deisel that bad. GM doesn't exactly have the best reputation for their full-size deisels, so I wouldn't be too trusting of a new compact model.

10 years ago, I would have loved to see a mid size diesel in the US. But given the current emissions fiasco that diesels are having to go through? No thanks. Diesels used to be cool and easy to work on, no computers, no expensive sensors, and no emissions BS. All of these new diesel vehicles are proving to be too problematic, running on too expensive of fuel, costing too much to maintain, and costing too much at purchase to make it a viable cost savings over the life of the vehicle.

Sorry, but a high maintenance $45k Colorado doesn't seem like a winner to me.

I blame California for this.

This is what I keep saying! After being around modern diesels a lot, I have decided to stick with what I know works. Glad to see more coming to market though. Hopefully this will end up having the effect of bringing down purchase prices, parts prices and repair prices. I have also been reading rumors that diesel taxes may come down at some point (lol I'll believe that when I see it) Anyways to each his own and it will be a Xmas miracle if this thread does not turn into another -never ending- diesel vs gas debate.

I didn't consider the Colorado. It sometimes looks ok in pictures, but the interior is straight out of a last gen Malibu and the whole truck, in person, looks like a penis. It was between a 16 DCOR fully loaded and a T4R for me. Wife liked the T4R, and the price was about the same, so that's what we ordered.

FWIW: A lot of folks who have bought Colorados haven't been particularly pleased with the gasoline V6. Essentially a sedan engine, GM did little to make the torque curve suitable for a truck.
