you dont have to buy an 4runner just because its good at off road, they are nice looking comfortable, reliable hold their value, gets better mpg than an Escalade and build to last, i dont see anything wrong with modding the truck for street use only, sure im not a big fan of huge rims but all of FoSheezy's trucks are nice looking other than the huge rims. and so what if they all have huge rims, this is a 4runner forum not an 4runner offroad forum, who are we to say their trucks are ugly, i think my truck is nice looking but im sure some people think my truck is ugly, do i care? **** NO!
Putting rims that big and tires that low profile makes your truck ride like crap. With hardly any sidewall (and tons of rotating mass), your truck will feel like **** on roads that aren't perfectly paved. Sidewalls only get stiffer when they're smaller profile. 3rd gens already suck pretty hard with comfort, imagine putting giant wagon wheels on it. Damper = gone, and we KNOW that shocks cannot and will not compensate that much. There goes your comfort, gone.
OH WAIT, you just scraped a curb, instead, there was only rim to hit instead of sidewall. There goes all that money that your ugly wheel costs. All it takes is ONE mistake, and everyone bumps a curb or hits a pothole now and then.
The kind of stress that huge gaudy wheels put on the hubs and suspension exceeds that of most of the offroad rigs on here, simply based out of the fact that rubber tire weighs less than metal wheel. Better keep an eye on those ball joints more than ever, too. Don't forget the lack of braking power and the stress on the steering rack those things must cost. If you thought your stock brakes warped with 265/70/16s, wait until you try HUGE rims.
3rd gens obviously look great, but they're hideous with pimp crap all over them, hence why they're in this thread. It's not even just the hideous rims, what about the giant chrome grille guard? Huge billet grille? Blue ass headlights? I can't stand the asses with HID's and no projectors! Squirrel finders... you can see them forever! There's only one word that pops into my head when I see some jerk with blue ass HID's in Halogen housings behind me, and it's "douchebag!"

I completely agree with COB. I know the PC thing to say is "if you like it, that's all that matters".....which is why I said it in my previous post (with sarcastic undertones not detectable through mere text). Well f*ck that!
I have a 2wd and secretly cry inside when I see a 4WD because I know I should have held out for a 4x4. When I see someone take my dream truck (BLACK 4WD Sport) and douche it out, it takes years off my life span.
So yes, I agree. If you are going to take a vehicle with strong off-road heritage and pimp it out to no end, be prepared to receive a world of sh!t from the forum you are showing up on! UGH!

My thoughts exactly, I like the off road look and the street look, we can all get along here and have a great time modifying our T4R to our taste.
Obviously yes, we can, but this thread is geared towards ugly representations of such. It appears that many agree that these trucks are ugly. If you don't agree with the things in this thread, there's thousands of other threads out there. There's tons of threads that show awesome 4Runners, we need a thread that makes us laugh, cry, and feel better about our trucks when people like LINY4Runner and brian2sun show off their AWESOME trucks.
This thread started with some ugly 4Runners then it just went to flaming preferences...I give props to most anyone who takes their ride seriously whether you take it up or down. Yea, my Runner is lifted and suites my preferences, but Ive been seriously thinking about a 2wd for my wife. If I did, I would most likely lower and level it with some nice wheels, chrome...no, but that cause "I" dont like chrome, (would that one make it on here?) Ive seen several Runners posted in here that dont belong including the last one posted...I vote get back on track with this thread and post up some more blue body-"kitted" 4Runners and move on.
I have seen a good looking lowered 4Runner before. It was black on bronze Volk te37's, I'm sure we've all seen it. I think that would be a much better choice for street use than 22's and chrome. His was also supercharged and very fast for a 4Runner, so he does deserve some props. He had more in it than just looks.
