You need to solder LEDs in. The gauge cluster only uses PLCC-2 LEDs.

Haha yea I guess, and nah I just got some random blue nail polish at the store. The reason mine are kinda purple though is because we left a little red on the back side under the knobs where the light shines through into the needle.

Awesome!! Are you going to installl a LED for the "off position" ? I don't have your skills, how much would you charge to install an LED for the "off position"? I'm thinking red would be cool

I already had done my hvac with blue backlighting and white arrows. I just needed to change the passenger airbag on/off lights etc.
I'd do all your hvac arrows if you want. Depends how fancy you want to go. Probably $75 with return shipping. Sound good?

It's more tedious than difficult, but the soldering is kind of tricky because the contact points are very fragile and it requires a steady hand... And fingers that can tolerate multiple contacts with the soldering iron

I have to ask a related question though. Have any of you had any luck with polishing out the scratches on the clear plastic? The 4Runner I just purchased has pretty bad scratches (yes I know it's a common complaint) and I'm hoping to get rid of at least some of them.

You can buy replacement plastic from Toyota for like $30. Much easier!

red is very nice, if i were to do the LED swap it'd def be red in all the intsruments. classy and less fatiguing on the eye than blue or green.
